It seems to happen to me on in the hub area when the nightosphere portal scrolls on screen, or when I beat the centrifuge boss.

Same here. I had to restart the game at least 6 times before it would work properly when that portal came into view. Back when I actually played it anyway.

If you're running Windows 8/8.1, like I am, try switching adventuretime.exe to run in WIndows 7 compatibility mode. It worked for me.
