WatchDogs crash on screen mode change
Hey guys,
I've played Watchdogs for a bit and had no problems, however recently everytime I start the game it starts in windowed mode, so I go straight to the menu options and change to fullscreen. As soon as I click apply the game instantly crashes and I have to terminate it. Anyone got any ideas what the problem is?

Graphics Card: GTX 750 TI
Processor: AMD FX 8350 Eight Core
RAM: 16GB

I solved the problem. I believe I verified the files and restarted my PC (can't quite remember but that feels right). This was on Ubisoft Connect, however.

you can try this when game starts hold alt and press enter this will put your window into full screen

Thanks for the suggestion, but its not getting it to change that is the issue, the second it tries to load fullscreen, for some obscure reason it crashes.

Try to run it with your full Resolution in borderless its the same thing, doesn't crash for me and you can do other thing while your game runs in the backround.

you can also try this, go to your documents find my games then watch dogs and edit game profile in there, you have something like this quality ResolutionX="1280" ResolutionY="720" change it to the resolution you want

It's in fullscreen now everytime it starts but still crashes

The odd thing is, I've played it for a few hours previously without any issues, yet all of a sudden this has cropped up.

Sorry to necro but I don't suppose you found a fix for this issue?
When I run it it opens in borderless. When I put it into fullscreen, it CTDs.

Hello Jordan de Tijger, sorry to hear that you are experiencing this issue also when running at full screen.

Can you tell me what aspect ratio it is you are trying to use, in the settings of the game?

I had the same issue on my 2K monitor when I first launched the game, I verified the game files in the launcher and the 2nd time I launched the game the crash when switching to full screen stopped.

Please try verifying your game files in Steam, then launch the game afterwards and see what happens > https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=2037-QEUH-3335

A developer of this app has indicated that this post answers the original topic.

That's great news Jordan, thank you very much for the update, verifying files is a good first step for most problems with crashing in games and you can do this in any game launcher.

If you come across any other issues, feel free to make another post in the forum and we will do our best to help when we spot your post.

Take care buddy.
