FPS / LAG - **Disabling audio drivers fixes it**
So, I have been unable to play Watch Dogs since release, I've been trying to troubleshoot the issue for quite a while now.

I noticed something odd, I have a GTX 760 and when I disable my sound via the device manager, everything runs perfectly. (Nvidia audio drivers)

Before my GPU usage wouldn't go above 25%. now it gets closer to 100%.

GTX 760,
i7 950,
12GB DDR3 ,
EVGA FTW3

& I'm using HDMI to send the audio to my speaker system through my TV.

Had a test with my 7870, not getting anything similar but I'm now convinced that I don't want to use these 14.6 drivers anymore. I'm also going to ask that everyone using them CHECK THEIR GPU TEMPS AND ACTIVITY.

Upon installing 14.6 my GPU activity never falls below 98% (even when not running ANYTHING) and temps are steadily climbing to 80c. So yeah, screw this driver.

I have no idea wtf is going on anymore.

Bumping this so more people can see it......I don't know why it works for me, but it does.

So you disabled your audio drivers and got a fps boost, interesting...

Not a boost, a MASSIVE boost. It was a slideshow before disabling the audio drivers.

Obviously this isn't a fix.... Can't play without sound....but for smarter people it might be a way to figure out how to do a real fix.

I have audio coming out of my sound card so I disabled my graphics cards high def audio and I actually did notice a boost in fps. I think you're onto something bud

Sounds to me like you didn't get the steam version!

I'm not sure what that has to do with my drivers screwing up. In any case I figured eventually that it's not the driver at fault. I had a bitcoin miner trojan on my system...

Haha. Serves you right for downloading a pirated version of W_D
Mr. Unethical. May 30, 2014 @ 5:20pm
Yeah, because there's no Uplay version or anything. (sarcasm is lovely isn't it?)

Also the bitcoin trojan was in my skype program_data. Not sure how it got there though. Also I'm not too interested in pirating games. I bought over 500 games on Steam and I have two titles that I have specifically on Uplay, Blacklist being one of them.

I don't need someone with a steam level 0 talking to ME about piracy.

Ah, ok then. Bc a lot of people who downloaded the WD torrent were infected with the mining trojan ...

simply add -nosound to the command line = FPS boost for me

Understandable, mining trojans are everywhere now. But I seriously have no clue how my skype got one :P

Only had the problem after I updated my gpu driver, so I'm totally not sure how.

just now tried this. went from 14 up to 50fps just from this alone. Wow, didn't expect that at all. I hope the patch will resolve this.

Believe it or not, this ACTUALLY makes a substantial difference. Go to "Device Manager" > "Sound, video, and game controllers" and right-click and disable all NVIDIA High Definition Audio and NVIDIA Virtual Audio Devices.

If you don't have a sound card, you might be SOL on in-game sound until a patch comes out. Perhaps on-board sound could be used instead? Not sure. I have a sound card, so maybe someone with this problem can see if they can get on-board sound to work while nVidia sound drivers are disabled.
