TheWorse v1.0 with Config Options + Bad Blood Compatible(Updated 03/14/2015)
Ubisoft is releasing updates more and more frequently now and the majority of questions I answer on TW mod thread is where to find my Steam thread. This will be a copy and paste post from the thread and mainly used for updates so the mods are easier to find.

Hey guys so TheWorse Mod v1.0 is finally out and considered completed, and as a whole I fully agree. It mostly delivers what we were hoping for and expecting prior to the games release. However somethings could still use some adjustments for a more realistic appearance and to optimize gameplay. I got a few pms about sharing my personal copy, but decided against opening yet another WD thread on Guru, so I'll share it here. My sweetfx are also included. I also included directions on how to increase performance to reduce stuttering, they'll work for vanilla or any mod of your choosing and are very simple. They're listed below under the screen shots.

TheWorse mod has now been merged with my own mod as their similarities were too great after altering the colorgrading to fix the blue tint TheWorse mod had with the recent UBI patch.

High and Ultra Textures with Down Scaled Effects -> https://docs.google.com/file/d/0B1ZlTwoAa_q7UGxjNFNRclhXRDg/edit
(For those who cant play with either High or Ultra settings. Use either High or Ultra textures and I suggest Ultra settings, but adjust for your own system accordingly.)

Sweetfx for Windows 8.1 -> {LINK REMOVED}

NOTE: Copy Sweetfx files into Watch_Dogs\bin folder.

Yizan's Train Headlights -> {LINK REMOVED}

Sunset's v4.0 Textures -> https://docs.google.com/file/d/0B1ZlTwoAa_q7YjFOeGF5UVlmMGM/edit
(This is not my mod, just an alternate download for it since it doesn't seem to be available on the official thread)

NOTE: These textures are for boosting performance after trying the performance tips at the bottom of the post. They will downscale the overall appearance of your game. If you're experiencing serious stuttering to the point that the game's unplayable though this mod will greatly help. Set your textures to High (or Ultra if you can manage it) and the graphical effect settings to medium, or what works best for your system. To install just copy the graphics folder into the mods folder and use the mod installer like normal. I suggest pairing this with my High and Ultra Textures with Down Scaled Effects posted above.

Those having issues installing Sweetfx should check the guide here -> http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=289922515

Changelog:

-Merged with UBI patch v1.05.324.

-TheWorse v1.0 merged with cmh175 Watch_Dogs mod.

-Corrected Colorgrading issue in TheWorse mod to fix blue tint after recent patch.

-New Bloom and Fog levels. Much more realistic and not nearly as blinding as TW v1.0.

-Different Camera options based on location (far, near, or default) and level of DOF.

-Choose between the light pollution effect at night or the default night sky.

-TheWorse v1.0 enhanced Environment Lighting or Default (enhanced can cause very dark lighting at night, I suggest sticking with default which is already installed unless you've adjust your brightness for this)

-Increased Civilian Density or Default.

-Switch Dynamic Shadows Off or On.

-Pick between TheWorse v1.0 Lens Flare, several different options from Solocreep, or the Default.

-Pick between Maldo's Textures, TonyMBR's update of Maldo's Textures, or the Default.

INSTALL DIRECTIONS:

1) Unzip download folder and open "mods" folder in a separate window, then open the "Mod Options" folder.

2) Select your preferred textures. Open the Texture Options and pick which texture mod you like (Default comes installed when you first unzip the download). Open the folder for that mod and copy the graphics folder inside, and paste it into the "mods" folder (overwrite everything when it asks, I already fixed this for compatibility).

NOTE: If you decide to switch Texture options after installing another you MUST delete the graphics folder first inside the "mods" folder. Otherwise you will miss and match the mods. You will also need to reinstall your preferred Lens Flare mod.

3) Now you can select the other options available. Just open up each configurable options folder, select the one you like, and copy the folders contents into the "mods" folder (overwrite everything when asked).

NOTE: Solocreep's Lens Flare is the only option with multiple files. When you open the folder, select the option inside you like most, and copy the contents of THAT folder (don't copy anything that isn't a folder named generated, worlds or graphics). If you paste anything into the "mods" folder and see a new folder that wasn't there before, remove that new folder and try again.

4) After you select the options you want open the MOD Installer.exe. It'll automatically recognize the "mods" folder you're about to zip. All you need to do is input your Watch_Dogs game install directory. Then just hit Install. When the green status bar is full the install status window will say it's completed, go ahead and close the MOD Installer.exe. The mod is now complete and installed, enjoy the game.

NOTE: MOD Installer.exe has an uninstall option so you can now revert to the original mod you had installed. However the original patch files maybe overwritten if you run the MOD Installer.exe more than once.

NOTE: Other than the Texture Options, you do NOT have to delete anything if you want to try any of the other options. I already fixed compatibility issues so you only have to pick what you want and copy the folders inside (example: to change camera and DOF options, just select a new option and copy the folders inside to the "mods" folder) Just remember to reinstall the mod every time you change something.

NOTE: If you use a High Bloom setting and get a white out effect (weird bright white appearance) this is a known issue and I had originally dropped support for High Bloom settings. Try a Low Bloom setting and see if that fixes the issue, if not than post what settings you used and include a screenshot if possible.

Troubleshooting Steps for Mod Installer Failing:

-Try installing Visual Basic 2008, this will usually fix the issue -> {LINK REMOVED}

-If the Mod Installer still isn't installing correctly double check your install location for the installer. Make sure you have it set to the games main install directory (Watch_Dogs, not data_64 or anything else).

-Sometimes there's an error about the file location having too many characters. If the mod is still failing try renaming the main folder something shorter, even just Mod. Chances are it'll work fine now.

Here are some screen shots of the mod using my own preferred mod options (Ultra settings at 1080p).

Performance Tips

Now I'll share my findings on performance after tons of testing (which was more than I care to discuss lol).

First I suggest basing your texture and quality settings on the suggestions from the game (some settings mention needing 3gb of vram). I suggest starting as high as you'd like to, and work your way down from there based on your performance.

For this playing with Ultra textures and settings, you need to switch Shadows to High. They have a huge performance hit and the game really just cant handle it. You can max everything else out though.

Next unless you're using SLI with anything higher than a 680 do not use 4x TXAA. It's not even recommend for a single Titan. Oddly enough 2xTXAA works fine though.

For Nvidia users you can also make a custom graphic setting in Nivida Control Panel. Scroll to the bottom about Texture filtering and stuff and change your setting for Performance, though I recommend High Performance. It'll slightly degrade the image, but it's really not that noticeable. You can find more info on this here -> http://www.tweakguides.com/NVFORCE_6.html
AMD users I'm sure there's a similar setup with RadeonPro, I just don't know anything about it.

Now this is the biggest fix. WD has issues with v-snch, though I find it unplayable with screen tearing. What you need to do is Set VSync="1" AND RefreshRate="120" in C:\Users\yourname\Documents\My Games\Watch_Dogs\***\GamerProfile.xml (it's towards the very top, not too hard to find in notepad) Save the file and right click -> properties> enable read only.

Now the game enables vsync only if the framerate is 60fps or above (like adaptive vsync) Only negative is you have to remove the read only tag to make permament changes to the settings in-game, and then set it to 120 and read only again.

Hey thanks for this. i was reading all your posts on guru and liked the changes you described so i am eager to try your modifications to this already great mod.

This is without maldo textures right? guessing so based on filesize.
I dont like the intense fog in daytime so im glad you fixed that too.
Did you remove DoF completely or just make it less? i like DoF but not really strong like it is in the mod originally it is just really strong and i think if it was weaker it would be a better balance.

I don't use DOF really at all. It's a nice effect for screenshots but I find it annoying during gameplay so I just switch it off in graphic settings. I left the TWv1.0 settings as otherwise the camera options are really good. Replacing them for another alternative with less or more DOF is pretty easy though, I can explain how to for anyone who's interested.

I use Ultra for everything other than Shadows. Ultra Shadows look great, but tank performance way too much. They still look really good on high and the performance increase is worth it.

i would be interested in adjusting the Dof myself as im usually good at following direcitons and i work in IT/Build servers and highend configs regularly. No rush tho just when/if you have the time to do so.

let me ask you something about maldo textures. are they actually better than vanilla ultra textures or just meant for people with performance issues that still want the good looking textures? as in is it more of a fix for certain scenarios or an actual improvement across the board? I have a 780 6gb EVGA SC card and havent had any performance issues really at all. no stuttering at all that i can tell. even when the fps drops 1-10 frames i dont see any tearing or slowdown whic h is suprising cause i did on my 580 and i didnt expect the 780 to be so good but hey its not a complaint lol. just curious if i need maldos or if i am better off with vanilla ultra

~Directions now listed instead of a paragraph so easier to follow.

Yeah I forgot to mention, other than the HD rock textures TheWorse mentioned I didn't use Maldo's textures. They're good if you have performance issues and do replace many low-res textures with HD ones, but the anti-aliasing issue doesn't do it for me. Other than the included textures from TheWorse I use vanilla.

Sure, changing these things isn't too hard at all. For the DOF you want to download TWv0.8 that has the WD config tool.

Inside the Data folder for the tool go to the Base Mod folder and you'll see z_DOF_CAMERAS with several folders listed inside it with the camera options (based on Camera and DOF option).

Now unzip my Patch.fat file using the gibbed tools (found here -> svn.gib.me/builds/disrupt/?C=M;O=D ) Just click and drag the patch.fat file onto the Gibbed.Disrupt.unpack.exe and it'll say "Open with Gibbed.Disrupt.unpack.exe", release the mouse and the tool will run. It'll create a patch_unpacked folder in your data64 folder (or where you have the patch files located).

Now just copy the cameracontext.lib file from the folder you picked earlier (not the whole folder but the file inside it) into the patch_unpack\generated\databases\generic folder.

To rezip the patch file rename the patch_unpack folder to just patch, and now click and drag it onto the Gibbed.Disrupt.pack.exe just like earlier. The tool will run and repack the patch file, overwriting the original with the changes you made.

That'll do it for changing DOF, not too hard at all.

anyway to change the camera back to normal? dont like it zoomed out so much
cmh175 Jul 21, 2014 @ 10:52am
My last post will guide you through how to unzip the patch file. Inside the WD config tool data folder the camera option you want is DEFAULT_DOF_CAMERA. That's the vanilla camera and DOF option.
TheBaws773 Jul 21, 2014 @ 10:58am
using theworse 1.0. want to change camera back to normal with this version. any way to do so?
cmh175 Jul 21, 2014 @ 11:03am
Yeah, you just have to add the original cameracontext.lib file. My two previous posts explain how to do this, it's really not too hard. Should only take 5 minutes.

This looks great CMH, thank you for taking the time to start this thread and make the changes. I am going to try them when I get home, as I do not like DOF or fog really either. Would there be a chance you know how to get the sweetfx to work on windows 8.1 64 bit, and to be able to use ur presets?
cmh175 Jul 21, 2014 @ 11:29am
Sure thing, I loved the mod but those particular features just didn't work for me. Other people mentioned it too so figured it was worth sharing.

I'm not sure, I have Win7. I do remember downloading a version from TheWorse though that had versions for Win7, Win8, and Win8.1 but I cant find the link. I still have it (at home) so I'll take a look and combine it with my preset for you guys this evening.

Awesome, thank you so much, that would be very helpful!!! I can't wait to try this when I get home. Yeah I love the mod too, just annoying having all that fog and not being able to see the city as you should, and the DOF made me dizzy lol. I have a gtx 780 OC, 16gb of RAM, i7 3770k processor. If I keep everything on ultra and turn shadows down to high, what AA setting would you recommend txaa x2? I currently run everything on ultra w/ the worsemod v1.0 w/ maldo and have txaa2. My stuttering isn't too bad, but enough to be annoying for sure, and its so strange because sometimes its perfect, then other tims it acts up quite a bit lol!
cmh175 Jul 21, 2014 @ 11:57am
No problem man, the game can look great with some work so happy to help out. I listed a few things in the first post that'll help with performance. The biggest one (I'd say required) is switching from bordless to full screen after your game save loads. I have no idea why but sometimes even with v-synch 1 enabled (adaptive v-synch I think) it'll still be capped at 30 fps when using full screen when you first load the game. Seems fine after switching back to full screen though, I get roughly 42-55+ with Ultra settings and High shadows with my GTX 770 classified 4gb.

This is an alternate fix for v-synch getting stuck at 30 fps from Macadamia on Guru. I haven't tried it yet but it's worth a try. Beats having to keep swapping borderless and full screen everytime you restart the game. You'll have to revert the file back to read\write though to change the game settings again and have them actually save, but you generally don't play with them much anyway.

Close the game AND uplay

Set VSync="1" AND RefreshRate="120" in C:\Users\yourname\Documents\My Games\Watch_Dogs\***\GamerProfile.xml

save the file and right click -> properties> enable read only

now the game enables vsync only if the framerate is 60fps or above (like adaptive vsync)

Is there a chance you cloud upload it to mega or google drive, I can't download from mediafire due to proxy restrictions. Thanks in advance.
