The Learning Skill
ok, i was thinking about getting as much out of quests as possible, as early as possible. so hear was my idea, i get the 1k gold from showing my letter in new sorp in the tavern, after that selling crap starting items for a few lousy gold coins, sial to mist ASAP, join 1 (and only one) elemental guild, get my mage the learning skill for almost all my gold and than get back to new sorp (either through dying or if i have enough money the normal way, perhaps direct to ironfist^^) so that i could get 10% bonus exp on the 3000 that you get for delivering the letter. so i should get 3300 xp with my mage, however i only get 3000 xp.

so my question is, does the learning skill no longer affect the quest xp (cause i remember that it did in my original version. and no i dont plan on trying to get that one to run on my pc, for what reason did i pay for a gog version^^)
OR are there a few quests that are not affected by learning (mostly the first super easy quests like the deliver the letter to ironfist, get the code of the gobbowatch or such i would believe)

because if quests are not affected by the learning skill, it does not make any sense at all to invest heavily in this skill in my opinion, cause you want those extreme xp awards later (like 100000xp or so) to get a 30% bonus (9 base, plus skillrank 7 * 3[Master]) or perhaps even more bonus if you have more points to dump/spare^^

problem with your idea is learning skill dont help in killing mob's, it has always be a good idea to even level them up in what you need xp is not everything, but every point you point over master will still count but its better to also could other stuff then only special skills, sooner or later some mob's are immune to that skill so its better to have many skills then few high.

well, since i normaly only start killing mobs when i am already master in water magic (basically all the council missions that are doable early, like fixing the stable prices, getting back the shield; and after completing every quest that is doable without killing anything, like first wizard promotion, first knight promotion, and a few more) the problem with that is: learning doesn't affect quest xp. tested it^^ so i would have at least 1 12 master magic skill with my mage + learning master at 7, and all other chars with dagger + spear or mace + shield at expert and an armor skill at expert, or magic at expert) so i get 30% bonus exp fpr all mobs that i kill when i start killing any at all

(and if i have fun and got myself lloyds beacon and flying early, i could easily have 6 +25 attribute rings and good weapons due to circus if i time it correctly), well i use the day of the gods pedestral in the NWC dungeon for that though^^

for the "it doesn't help killing stuff" thing: sure it doesn't help, but normally you would use for anything that can't be taken care of through a flurry of blessed and heroismed dagger strikes, your mage with ice bold and or your cleric with flying fist (if they are not immune. and in new sorp, ironfist, bootleg bay or free haven, there normaly is no mob immune to frost bold, even very few against flying fist. later magic becomes more or less useless in fighting anyway, since almost everything gets immunity to magic^^ acidblast can help against a few things, but mostly those cratures get immunity to poison as well, and since NONE of the debuffs from the body/mind/spirit trifold of ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ works in any rate... go with dagger at expert and spear at master and dont forget to give everyone master in one armor and minimum bodybuilding at expert (master prefferable^^) magic will only be a one time a day buffing session with light and dark magic master^^ or porting around and casting flying now and then (except the thing with meteor shower and titans ;P

what did i want to say for the topic if tl:dr :

learning does not influence quests exp at all, not early; not late.
still its usefull if you know what you are doing in the beginning. if this is your first time playing: ignore it or learn it at 1 to get the basic 10% bonus xp^^ if you don't know where you can leatrn this skill: first of get the quest money from the tavern and from castle ironfist. after that use a boat to get to misty islands, join the water guild (or fire/earth), and learn learning with every char for 1000gold each. that means you have to wait a little bit for bow skills for everyone, but hey, you will thank me in the long run ;)

Yeah, you don't want to invest heavily in the learning skill, just get it on every character that you can learn it on for the extra 9-10% XP.

I get learning skill to level 10 and master level ASAP- I then pick up a scholar and a teacher asap. If you use the secret teleport in NS to get to Dragonsand and use the shrine you will have a high enough Int to pull it off within the first ten levels... My party (which in VI is always four druids) will be all over level 100 by the time I finish the game... Frankly don't know or care when it kicks in only know that when I do this I end up over level 100 and if I don't I will end up around lv 80...

woah, nice necroposting there dude:rsk_zombie: well whatever^^

to the point where you don't know when it "kicks in" well it kicks in instantly the moment you get the skill the first time, however (as mentioned above, tested and confirmed multiple times:meatytears:) it will not affect quest xp (thats what would actually make it worth it), and only the xp you get from killing monsters. so yeah you CAN get that very early, however that wastes a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ of skillpoints and money early on. so if you want those 20 extra levels... feel free to, but it's realy not THAT big of a difference to have 3 or 4 skillpoints in blasters later on XD

since you know what you are doing, i don't have to explain to you what you should do with your skillpoints, but i highly recommend to everyone thats new, read my recommendation 2 posts above this, and to everyone else, as long as you are not hunting for obscene level numbers and trying how high it goes before overspilling or all chars becoming useless due to extreme age, either leave it at 1, or perhaps get it to 4 and expert it, that are 10 skill points, you can handle that loss easy, and you will get a decent boost without expamnding too much skill points that can be better used elsewhere.

as for your choice in charakters... well if 4 druids keep you entertained, nice, at least its not 4 knights
Ssenkrad_II Jan 13, 2017 @ 9:23am
4 druids with 12+ in each school of magic... The extra 20 levels is needed for that, and for anyone new I would recommend it...

The Might and Magic VI forum on the first page is where this thread was found- far, far, far, far, far.... gasp* from the definition of "necroposting"... dude

:P
