A Message to Blackpowder Games
I found out about Betrayer shortly after it released from early access. I got it on a whim, as the screenshots and trailers piqued my interest.

Today, it goes on my list of the best indie games I've ever played on steam.

I was there for every update, hunting for almost every achievement, and, most of all, I held my breath and waited for what Blackpowder had in store for us next.

Nothing ever came. They went from responding to players on this forum and posting frequently on facebook, to total silence. I don't know what ever became of the Blackpowder team, but even now, I hold a tiny semblance of hope that they may come back some day with a product even better than Betrayer. But I know something like that will probably never happen.

Betrayer was such a fine example of what a small, up and coming dev team could create, and had Blackpowder stuck around, I genuinely believe that they were going to make a big splash on the indie gaming scene. But Betrayer turned out to be their first and final product.

I think Blackpowder disappearing made me appreciate Betrayer even more. It still has some truely exceptional writing, a fun combat system, and a rich world to explore. Knowing that this was the prized creation of an entire company makes Betrayer more important to me, in a sad kind of way. I'm just glad I was there to see it become a reality.

I hold absolutley zero ill-will towards the guys who worked at Blackpowder. Companies go under all the time, it's just buisness, and working in an industry as fragile as indie games development, anything can happen. I hope all of you have moved on to do bigger and better things, and I wish you all the best.

Blackpowder, thank you for Betrayer. I'll always enjoy it, and will always cherish every playthrough. Thank you.

I just finished play through of game yesterday. Agree with you that this game was a great achievement for a small indie team. Because of how it ended, hoping for a sequel.

Oh man, every now and then I search for Blackpowder games hoping for any updates from them. Betrayer is such an amazing game when it comes to art style and atmosphere.

As far as I know, the company doesn't exist anymore.

I keep meaning to play this game more. The last time I had played my PC couldn't really handle it well.

It's always sad when a good indie team / game dies.

Totally agree to the OP. Finished it this year. Great game, despite few crashes and bugs.
Absolutely unique atmosphere and nice gameplay. Hopefully this jewel of a game gets back in the "right hands" and can be purchased again or obtained for free.
