As for the space vermin, the best way to deal with them is to just tidy up the station, beam up litter and place it in the recycler or buy some more scuzzers. Memaus (the cats) just kinda show up when vermin are around, and while they will deal with the vermin and make everyone a bit happier when interacting with them, they come with serious problems of their own. Trust me when I say they can be much worse than vermin, but if you want to spoil the surprise of why, read the spoiler below.
They will eat litter until full, then find the nearest person and infect them with a parasite, this will grow inside them and without immediate medical attention, will result in the violent death of the host creature as a massive nigh-unstoppable alien called a skrasher bursts out, often in the middle of your medbay as sick people will naturally head there. The worst part is if your security team doesn't kill it in time then it simply withers away, leaving 2 memaus behind to restart the cycle
and an addendum to the spoiler above.
Once you start seeing Memau you may want to move your dine-o-mats up to the recreation deck, as this will significantly cut the amount of litter available for them to eat. Memau have a limited lifespan and will die off without infecting a peep if they don't eat enough. You will also want to get a z-ray scanner into your sickbay to enable treating of those infected with a Skrasher parasite, as well as placing security columns next to the sickbay for when a Skrasher hatches before they can be treated.
If you have cargo bays, your scuzzers will pick up the crates and bring them to the nearest non-full bay. With enough scuzzers, it will all run with no intervention.
