Buttons do not display on main menu, unable to start game. Windows 11 + NVIDIA card

hello!! i'm so sorry if this was asked before, i couldn't find anything online that really helped with this issue.

i just got this game and every time i start up, after loading, it gives me what i assume to be the main menu... but with no buttons. instead of buttons, every 3 or so seconds the screen flashes with black text very briefly and occasionally some black shapes display. i was able to hit the escape key then enter to exit the game, so i guess it's just some weird display issue, but it's definitely one that prevents me from playing as intended.

i've tried running in compatibility mode and installing the beta version seen in the properties for the game, still no dice. i would really appreciate if there were any suggestions as to how to fix this, this game seems so fun!!

Hi, a lot of people have display issues on newer hardware with this game unfortunately. You've tried a few of the easiest potential fixes, so next up I've seen some people having success with using dgVoodoo 2. If you search for that (Steam forums may block the direct link but it's easy to find) then put the files in the same folder as the Startopia executable, try giving the game a try again to see if things are any better.

I run it on compatibility mode as windows xp service pack 2 on windows 11. It worked for me.

I got the exact same problem. Nvidia RTX 4060 Laptop running on Windows 10 Pro 22H2.

Try putting the ddraw.dll file from this github [github.com]github in the root folder of your game. This fixed the same issue on my computer.
