Not a lot of good choices on Steam from I have personally checked on.
Here this has been bypassed via brute force. There are many different ways to raise your stats, multiple type of gameplay loops to break the monotony, various activities, and relatively frequent story events so that you feel like stuff is happening on top of just raising your stats. It's just like a dozen different game modes, and you're switching between one or the other very quickly. I think it's a pretty effective way to shake things up, although with the predetermined timeline it does feel a bit less sandboxy than other trainer games might.
Then again, I haven't played that many trainers. They're not super popular games. But I became aware of them relatively early; my first one was Princess Maker 2 (DOS version), back in the day. I wonder if it still feels playable given the existence of more recent games? I think I saw the Refine version here on Steam. I can't imagine they'd be selling the original given that Steam is based in the USA and that country is very sensitive about underage nudity. Also, feeding your ten year old daughter breast enlargement pills you buy from a Chinese orc? Probably not considered acceptable nowadays.
Is there even a "trainer" tag on Steam? Surely there is one. I don't recall ever checking it out. Could yield interesting results. Maybe there are tons of wacky games out there. Maybe a few of them have content on par with this one.
