How do you activate the Cheats?

I've tried what seems like everything here, and the game keeps reading out that i need to have them enabled, when i keep putting in 'Cheats 1' like I should. It's starting to get really annoying man, because i'm stuck on this one part, and i have really low health, and all my saves that aren't map changes keep getting corrupted.
Does anyone know what the heck is going on with that, and why I can't enable cheats?

That isn't correct. It's "/cheats 1" (from in-game console) or "+set cheats 1" (when launching the game from shortcut or command-line). Also you need to restart the current map for cheats to activate if you try to enable them middle of a game (probably the best way to do this is "/map exmy[a-e]" where x is integer for episode, y is integer for level and a-e is the identifier of the map of the level e.g. e1m1b for second map of the first level in first episode). Starting from last checkpoint is fine. If you post a screenshot then I can tell where you are and give you this map id.

Excuse what? Have you installed patch 1.3? Is it installed correctly? Is it the latest version? Just what do you even mean by "my saves keep getting corrupted"?

Bumping because I entered a new map too close to a wall and spawned inside of it. Your methods don't work. "Cheats will be enabled next game", but when I try to no-clip I get "you must run the server with +1 cheats" yadda yadda yadda.

With Acro 3, I managed to get on the roofs of the Plague Village, then slipped off, behind the trigger area for a map change - getting stuck.

There's an invisible wall that prevents me from going back to the main part of the village (from the cemetary side of the transition point).

When I press "n" to turn on "noclip", I get a message about needing to enable cheats on the server. I can open the console, type "set cheats 1" and get a message that cheats will be enabled in the next game. Close the game, restart the game from where I got stuck, press "n" and get the whole sequence all over again!

I read the guide for 1st time players and installed the 1.3 patch. I had to replay about half the first episode - which went pretty quickly after having already played it.

Got stuck in the wall after a map transition, and the last save is too far away. Tried using noclip, but the game keeps telling me that "you must run server with +set cheats 1 bla bla" even though i've already tried entering "set cheats 1" and reloading save.

Tried adding +set cheats 1 to my shortcut, still doesn't work. Patch 1.3 installed.

Wanted to use cheats to get back close to where I was before installing the 1.3 community patch. Using the GoG install, I wasn't having any luck with launching with the prescribed arguments or using Romero's config. Dekonega's response was helpful, but could be more pointed.

From the console, you can just "set cheats 1" and then whatever map you're on just reload it e.g "map e1m2b" and you should be set. From there you can do what you need with cheats.

Latest patch version breaks cheats. Older version used to work. Also, patch updates break save game support from previous version.

Don't really know if patch downgrading is worth it for cheat support, but updating breaking savegames is completely uncalled for. This should not be a thing.

Can the auto-updater be disabled? If so, what do I need to set?

Also, I thought the 1.3 patch was supposed to boost texture resolution, but nothing looks that much better. Maybe it helps the color depth more, but this game needs a HD texture pack. Or xBRZ texture filtering.

PS. Last version to support cheats is DK_EXE_052519_SLIM_x64.EXE
All the newer versions break cheat support.

update:
forcecvar cheats 1 will work on newer versions
use teleport to teleport AI eg: teleport_mk to teleport mikiko

Developer knows he screwed it up, doesn't care to "fix" it properly, must use forcecvar as workaround.

Also, HD textures are not going to be worked on. Outside of 3rd party using ESRGAN to make a HD texture .pak mod. I don't know how to use it, so if anyone else does, please make a HD mod. Either ESRGAN or xBRZ remaster would be better than nothing.
