Rare Blank Lithograph

I think they made this game overcomplicated. I wanted to have rare armour. I but I didn"t have rare lithpgraphs. Then I found out I could craft a Rare Blank Lithograph and I thought I could make rare armour of my choice with it. So I started to gather the materials and I got it finally.

Then I clicked on the Lithograph and I have to select rare equipment to sacrifice for it. Thats fine. I will sacrifice Decorated Champion Boots.
Now it says Lithograph result: Rare Lithograph Decorated Champion Boots.
So the result is a Lithograph that I can use to ONLY MAKE THE GEAR I JUST SACRIFICED????? WTF
I don't get it at all.
On a yt video someone says I could sell the lithograph in a auction. Why would someone pay more money for a lithograph then the armour it self?

Someone please explain this to me.

lithographs are for copying a piece of your gear but also sacrificing it to make a piece you can sell at the auction house its not explained very well
