Ornate coins important? What to do,returning player)

I bought this game at launch and played very little, just reached the first town and for one reason and another i didn't have time to play and didn't checked till today.
I have 4000 on a character i don't like and those coins are not universal like the Sollant, so if i delete this one to make a new one i lose everything? Also i have some stuff in the first character, ugly as well from the 40 euro release pack or something.
What to do? Also i don't even know if the servers im on are ok today or what language they are in ( based on release info ).
