Choosing a name is almost impossible

Was going to give this game a shot. Went though all of my gamer handles that I use in other games. Every last one was taken. Tried multiple different words and combinations. Nothing worked. Kinda lame. Special characters are not allowed. If i'm going to build a character in the likeness of my gamer identity it would be good to allow us more options in choosing names we actually like. Must be really hard to create an own unique name, instead to copy paste names. Not the first thread i saw about that "problem".

do what everyone else is doing and use your regular name but add in a random chinese or japanese character

For historic consoles, I'd understand restricting names. There is no excuse for it now. Even WoW classic makes it hard to choose a name. So what if it has spaces, numbers, or special characters? A modern literal String type holds all that. The only thing that should be unique is your identifier tag.

I always liked to take two words, translate them into a different language and then slap them together.

I like the way PSO2 handled it, you had an in game "license card" with your unique username, but the character name could be anything and was not limited. There could be thousands of the name. Username should be separate and unique, character name should be unlimited. If there's 750000 who want to be JoeMomma then let it be so.

I get you can only have 1 name per player, but the servers should each have different name lists and if you delete a character you should be able to name your remake character that again. Anything else, including the way this game does name is lazy and stupid.

I downloaded this game when it first launched on Steam made my first character wasn't happy with my appearance so I deleted and made a new character, found out we can't reuse deleted character names so I deleted the game and never played again lmao

I saw the new weapon class and want to try it again but I'm still gonna be salty about my name being gone especially since I got mk4l originally

Maybe change your name to something special like S1gm4. Just a "Sigma" is pretty common.
