I found plenty of videos detailing all the various tank options except for sns + staff. All I could find was one random guy saying he solos with it?
So I was curious what the disciples (its name according to the game) capabilities are and if stat allocation would have some hard choices to make like str vs int.
I got you Sir/Madam, this is my current setup as well, i love the character fantasy of a Mage-Knight as well.
its not so much Str vs Int with Disciple(the name of the weapon set) but how the skills synergize with each other, which to my surprise it does beatifully. I can only share my experience with the class please gleen from it what you will.
1. first and foremost YOU ARE A TANK. do not neglect your defensive stats and capabilties this being your shield block, your main sustain and your equipment. you have tools to keep you in the fight longer, not as long as templar (SnS/Wand) but you will melt things down before they get you, and stay in the fight longer then you know. so in short always prioitize your def 1st, your DPS will come naturally surprisingly.
1b. this also means focusing your master skills in defense, remember, master skills for MAIN weapon Affect EVERYTHING. Secondary weapon only affects OFFENSIVE abilties, keep in mind.
2. CC for you and for me, why i went the class, lots and LOTS of crowd control, and abilities that benefit from CC...and give you more atk from CC xD. along with your collision/stuns/movement decrease/stun downs from your SnS you get DOTS/freeze/Lightning procs from your staff. you can really put down the pain while you turn mobs into a slobbering mess. just know if you go into DOTS, you MUST commit to DOT abilties to get the most out of it, darn fun.
2a. ah we have good MP regain abilities so while it doesnt hurt to focus a bit, know you have many games to sustain it and keep in the fight.
3. AOE...AOEs everywhere! you are a great farmer, and you can lock down most mobs with spells, HOWEVER dont forget your SnS abilties, they have better threat gen and can apply great AOEs as well, you can. be mindful of what you take in and your position. you may be a tank but you can be slapped around all the same, learn your abilities.
4.allright....the bad news, Disciples dont really have a OH S[;@! button, they have an amazing lv 50 abiltiy that's great one, but thats down the road, we only have our buffs, minds...and explosions. xD
4b. with that said consider cooking for buffs, and getting higher end potions when you can (guild). consider with gear getting as much health regain as you can.
In short you are a tank first but a mage second but you do have damage.
Dont be intimidated by the other tanks (SnS/Wand) and (SnS/GreatSword) you can stay in the fight and do content,
YOU ARE NOT WEAK! but be mindful because you dont have their tools, use yours to your benefit. Like any good tank really.
All in all have fun. if you are not enjoying it change it up.
I hope this helps, happy hunting!
Awesome! This was very helpful and detailed which I was hoping for! Thank you very much :) I believe I will stick with disciple and give it a go!
I like being a tank and the option to handle large groups with ease via CC sounds fun.
