So after 5 hours none stop fishing i found the easiest way to reel in any fish is as follows:

Only use 1/3 of your green stamina bar, its that simple, as soon as 1/3 is used let go and when its back to 100% pull again.
Once you get into a rhythm its fast and reliable.
I have not missed a single fish of any difficulty since, i even got a friend to test this out to make sure it wasnt my fishing level and he agrees it makes catching any fish so simple, they cant get away.
All done with a bamboo fishing rod and cut up fish as bait. The bait you buy for contract coin also has a much higher chance of catching Small and Big Sacks.

im not a huge fan of the mini game, i want fishing to be a relaxing thing not an annoying mini game.

Yeah how do you recover the red icon over the fish? I've tried pulling against them, pulling with them, letting go, if it's red it seems to just randomly recover or not.

Not 1/3, but use just 10% of green bar, there is strongest your pull and recovers fastest.

Also "you will still miss a fish again", but will get easier at higher fishing levels. That's the irony of devs" let's make it easier for those who already know how to do the minigame and hardest difficulty for those who don't even have it explained and just starting to fish. It's like they want the game to fail and they to become jobless.

as someone with a low fishing lvl i can say that it does not work. Its better to just use a little of the bar at once but always depends how strong the fish fight back, sometimes u want to consume a lot of the bar and hope the fish turns the other way. Some Fish consume so much of your bar its impossible (with the bamboo fishing rod)

I think its based on your pole quality, once i got the purple platinum one from Portal the red ^^ arrows were gone from the green-blue fish i caught

It is based on levels. Purple gives +3 fishing.
