THRONE AND LIBERTY

PVE Aggro confusion
Am i crazy or while playing in a dungeon mobs and bosses straight up generally ignore the mechanic. I attempt to spec tank and constantly loose aggro, my damn healer is grabbing more boss aggro than myself.

i have every specialization of my skills on greatsword into increasing the taunt value, but its doing nothing to keep it, even the Willbreaker skill only keeps attention for maybe 3 autos from the boss and it says it "maxes aggression".
(offhand is longbow, it could be s&s but i like being a off healer to take pressure off my party healer.)

i understand the Sword and Shield / Book and Wand argument, my counter argument is in the game of crazy build options, why am i faced with only one real choice then, even though there clearly is suppose to be tank focused spec's in the Greatsword.

i dont think aggo should be that difficult to hold.. especially if its fully spec'd to it, and invested. "the only tank weapon is sword and board" in this game seems... weird in a game all about using different weapons and combos.
Wouldn't it be easier if the monsters were just dumb? Sounds boring
So far playing SnS/GS and have no direct problems with the tanking. What bothers me more are the DPS players who run into a dungeon and aggro every mob while you as a tank can follow him to take control over the mobs.

Just because the Great Sword weapon skills have the option to spec into increased aggression doesn't mean that the investment choice is substantial.
It doesn't say by how much of an increase it is, nor what the base value is.

This game allows you to equip a second weapon and use some of it's skills and passives without actually having to use the weapon in combat. It seems like Great Sword has the "tank" options to be used as the stat stick and skills to do some extra damage and agro.
I need confirmation here!

So if I equip an PASSIVE skill of an dagger but are actively using a BOW. Does the crit dmg passive skill still add up to my bow dmg?
If you're running SS then you NEED to run Willbreaker for tanking. It maxes out your aggro when you upgrade it. It also has a decent CD so that and your shout are your best friends for a tank spec

Greatsword is not a tank weapon. Sword and Shield is.

Yea this is just not how you tank. I know what you think you're trying to do, but that's just making you a garbage tank. You support your healer by holding threat and blocking appropriately and not standing in crap.

Put your sword and shield on and wand/book in your secondary for personal heals.
I can also assume that based upon how you're going about this that your stats and skills are trash too. You need to google a tanking guide relating to this game.

yes it does.... just like us tanks use the passive from wand to get healed by damage done while using only our SS on a target with a curse.
To clarifiy:
Skills that "max aggression" do not really create aggression, they just put you on top of the aggro-list of the mob. This means that they do nothing if you have the aggro anyway.
These skills have to be followed up by real aggro skills to keep your just earned first place on the aggro list.

Now about the weapon:
With Greatsword you have 2 skills with pretty long cooldowns that do "some extra aggro".
That wont work.

With sword and Shield you get a skill with:
- only 6 seconds cooldown
- does highdamage and has a high aggro modifier
- can skill a 2nd high aggro modifier
- can skill AoE
- has a synergy with counter barrier

Using S&S also gets you a ranged taunt (aka "maxes agression"), an AoE Taunt, a ranged aggro spell and a big amount of damage reduction.
Tank also have a stun with 70% chance to work and a pull with 80% chance to work. What a joke.
