Main Tank weapon is Sword&board and as secondary you either use greatsword for some minor extra aggro (which you actually don'T need at all) or you choose wand&book to get curses and selfheal through curses.
All in all this game needs a lot of rework. They made it an awful phone app for moneys, then last moment started over, so no wonder it's a mess. I have huge fonts in map menu and can't make them smaller, because reasons and it's all menu in menu the UI, where the menu UI can't be moved or resized, takes up half the screen.
I don't think this thing will last for long, unless they keep changing it, because it's still a long way to go until it's a proper MMO.
In FFXIV I was better rewarded on tank and healer than DPS, and that game is old now, they could not check what the most successful MMO's already have, if wanted to compete? Make it better than others, not lag behind.
It doesn't help that bosses ignore aggro and have certain attacks that hit random party members and completely reset their aggro, forcing the tank to waste more time chasing after a boss than doing their actual job.
Which bosses are that? I haven't seen aggro reset happening.
Heliber has mechanics that i assume is normal to select a random party member to mark for culling to encourage team movement and play, so i dont really count him.
Roaring Temple is a different story. mainly having trouble with the random dogs spawned about, they just run after the other party members, and even after my Willbreaker 360 max aggro ability they just ignore it half the time.
King Chimaerus also just.. attacks whoever it decides to go after, i lose the taunt so fast i spend half the time running after him trying to get it back, but when my abilities hit (spec'd for taunt) he still just ignores it, Willbreaker being the only one to get taunt.. for maybe 2 seconds.
his aoe arena wide burn is a healer skill check, but also can be ended pretty early with chain grapples, but in general i am unable to upkeep any semblance of aggro, him mostly ending up focusing whoever is damaging him the most? it feels like aggression that i am supposedly building is not actually having any effect.
i am using only one tank weapon in just the greatsword with longbow secondary, but being told "just use the sword and shield" to fix the problem makes no sense if the aggression spec in:
Cruel Smite aggression increase on hit
Stunning blow aggression increase on hit
Willbreaker maxing aggression on hit
and finally blood devotion, allowing you to mitigate 40% / 70% single target or even aoe damage to your team.
how is Greatsword not a tank weapon when it focuses Hp regen and max hp? why is aggro impossible to hold? im not the best mmo player, i am not rotating at the most efficient, but it really feels impossible or broken mechanically.
Shield attack with extra agro spec, shield throw fully specced, roar and just try to apply as much damage with dot and execute with exposion fairly often. Time your cooldowns to rotate needed agro gen in case you lose something or need to grab something new.
Chain helps as well.
Or just take time to learn the game?
SnS/GS is meta for PVE grinding in open world dungeons. Just have SnS equipped and use GS for the side skills with agro gen.
It doesn't say by how much of an increase it is, nor what the base value is.
This game allows you to equip a second weapon and use some of it's skills and passives without actually having to use the weapon in combat. It seems like Great Sword has the "tank" options to be used as the stat stick and skills to do some extra damage and agro.
