Weapon swapping?

Can some explain the purpose or benefit of weapon swapping? My confusion stems from the fact that you can use your alt weapons skills from the action bar without swapping to it.

Oh the auto attack depends on the active weapon out okay that makes sense.

Only allows you to block/counter with it, and auto attack.

It just allows you to carry the weapon you want to carry and block with that weapon.

Skills requiring certain weapons will auto switch and switch back to the one you have selected to carry.

I think Guild Wars 2 did weapon swapping better. The skill bar changed in response to which weapon is equipped, automatically. No spreading skills for two weapons across a single bar.

The skills from the weapon profession counts only for the weaing weapon. If you skill mana reg with staff but using the wand, you will not get the bonus. Means, its pretty stupid to use a secondary weapon in this game.-
