Something about this game feels... off...
ive been looking forward to this game all year and i was super excited to play it.

when it came out i launched game and sat in menu like wow this musics cool.

i picked a server and was like damn the character creation is nice and the characters look great. (i play on ultra so the characters look good for me)

i spent over an hour making my character and she looks great. i then click play and i watch the cutscene and they look great too and voice acting great.

then at the start when i opend the door and a giant flying whale with a huge tree was there i was like wow this game is beautiful.

the first town you go to looked cool and lively and great and homey the voice acting of NPCs great

it felt good then i started combat and i was like this is pretty good too. i completed the tutorial got to the first town where all the other real players are got my quests and went out into the wild.

i start doing my quests attacking a few creatures done those quests got to the beach area...

and for some reason just... something about this game feels off....

i dont know what it is and i cant put my finger on it... but i dont feel the excitement in this game like i did when i first played say Skyrim when it first ever launched.

i dont feel that sense of "i wana no life the crap out of this game" like i use to when i was excited for a game to come out.

so i played for like an hour logged off went to watch tv. came back next day and played for like 30 mins log off.

the games OK but... i cant... i just dont know what it is but something feels off like i just dont have that feeling of excitement and adventure or something and i cant explain it...

like i dont feel that new game rush like i did with skyrim or dragon age or mass effect 1 2 3 when i played them i hope you guys know what i mean.

maybe im just getting old? maybe its just me? or maybe others also feel this way with this game? like this game is just.... OK...

what are your thoughts?

I would have to say one distinction, though obvious, is that the games you mentioned are single-player and really cant be compared to co-op games, let alone MMO's. That being said, it's quite ironic that I think that is the very issue you have: That this game makes you feel like you're playing an MMO, with 1/4 of a million people all around you...alone. The game feels like a single-player without the quality of one, because MMO's can't have the quality of one, so I think it's tripping you up there.

It feels like an MMO.

That's it. It doesn't feel like another game in an MMO format. It doesn't feel new.

Like, you already played this game. An old MMO you used to play got a graphic upgrade and you are playing it for the first time in years.

There's nothing really bad about it. However, there's nothing to hook you in, either.

I made it to 50 and half my gear was still greens, level 6. I go to craft some blues, but nope you need some dropped recipe and can't craft better gear. All the blue gear in all the Co-Op dungeons didn't have the melee/ranged evasion stats I was looking for. And I see every dungeon is nothing but wipe mechanics (jump/dodge/block within .5 seconds or you die). I hate that.

So, I'm sitting around as a level 50 with no point or direction and I've spent all day reading guides and watching videos what to do at 50. It looks pointless to me.

Guess I'm done.

Because it's another generic Korean MMO:

A) Combat were rotations suck and it's more about button smashing and looking flashy.
B) Boring world that's a copy paste of every other Korean MMO.
C) 2000000 enemies per square meter.
D) Awful UI.
E) Super P2W.
F) Decent PvP that's completely ruined by P2W and zerg rushes.

I mean, what were you expecting from the guys that did L2?

i think the game is ok don't get me wrong and i know its an mmo not a single player game but.... it just don't feel any different from the hundreds of other mmos... like there is nothing that makes it stand out among the rest or have things that are new and exciting others don't already have.

like i said its an ok game and it is incredibly beautiful and amazing character design compared to other games but beyond that i don't see it much different from any other mmo

im sure it will do well and i hope it does just... wish it had... i dnno... more... but not sure what that more is...

There's always New World, supposedly it's a solo RPG now...

I’m only a few hours in playing TL and I sense or at least worry that the same feeling is approaching myself.

I’m still super excited about a lot of things that the game offers, beautiful visuals, not too bad gameplay (it might even get more interesting when it gets more difficult), an interesting world and story …

The one thing that I sense to be itching me, might be related to the notion of „an MMO can not be compared to a single player game“. I think that’s only partially true, and this is probably what I’m sensing to be missing in TL – more and more thoughtful RPG components. A concept like this is even already existing and it’s called MMORPG. Are we referring to that when we say MMO?

What could help in my opinion, would be more single player quests, more fine grained and manual skill progression including character traits development …), also more and free PVP could help (but not necessarily though). But for sure also more careful lore stitching would then also be needed.

Currently in TL, we are starting with a somehow already fully equipped character, that’s mastering already two weapons and a bunch of crazy looking skills, in consequence somehow already killing crazy enemies in the prologue with ease (including something like a boss), while then going back to killing supersized bugs in the first chapters. (That felt weirdly off!). Then skills and weapons can just be used and „leveling“ them, somehow feels a bit to easy. Also I don’t like the idea of simply being able to master any weapon at any time – but I guess this later gets a bit more complicated when you choose your character stats and developed them in one direction.

A perspective to that: In early L2 you started as an absolute novice with absolute barebones of equipment (a club and some trainee rugs), killing rabbits and goblins, with only a few super basic skills or spells. Than you had to slowly develop yourself up. Also you had to chose a fighting style/professiln quite early, that was not changed later on super easy. And a lot of that character development, crafting and questing could have been done alone, while of course a party/group and guild was super beneficial or even necessary too.

Of course there’s a big contrast between early L2 and current MMOs. But overall I think RPG components can definitely be combined with more „MMO-ish“ or corporative gameplay. Even in more modern and innovative ways I guess.

IMHO, the combining of „MMO“ and Co-Op components, with also RPG components, was what made L2 to stick around for that long. A lot of different player-types could find an enjoyable game experience.

That said, I’ll definitely play TL a little longer. It definitely has a lot of other interesting qualities, that I want to explore. Let’s see if that sensing of missing RPG in this MMO is turning to be true and at last also relevant for my enjoyment.

The game is okay and it's fun. I'm addicted to a degree but I strongly feel like going to buy a sub and start playing WoW.

It's strange but the game feels pretty but soulless.
Blue Oct 4, 2024 @ 4:42am
I don't know the truth to it. Others have said it was originally supposed to be a mobile game. Regardless of the truth, that's exactly what it feels like albeit with significantly better graphics than I would expect from a mobile phone.

What feels off - basically you notice all of the things that are meant to make the game a hamster wheel, not an enjoyable experience.
I got this feeling right away after they introduced item upgrades. And it just gets worse.
You can just FEEL the F2P EnGaGeMeNt MeChAnIcS everywhere.

It feels like a generic mmo that Ive played better versions of already. Nothing about this game makes me want to continue playing it over going back to FF14. On top of that the mechanics are confusing when you just start out *gear progression comes to mind* and I know that put off quite a few people just starting the game.
Sacred)(Rhaine Oct 4, 2024 @ 4:51am
As above poster said its got that generic korean mmo feel. A bit souless.

It is also known as "getting older syndrome".

I have suffered this for a few years now.
