All of these are incentives to competing. If you choose not to compete, you will be disadvantaged. If you want a game where everyone is equal and the PVP is balanced, play Guild Wars 2. This isn't that type of game. This is a War simulator. When armies clash, there is no balanced, no justice, no fair. There is Chaos.
It will make the game fail along with the other poor design decisions. It is one of the reasons it has a mixed review. They have made some really stupid game design choices and this is one of the whoppers.
It has been used on me at least 8 times now trying to get 1 boss kill. It is abused by players and prevents content access server wide. This is too much power for 1 guild, give them a different buff not this. It is going to ruin the game.
If I am ready to quit over this crap, I am not the only one.
once the top guilds have their foothold, they're remain there. i've yet to see anything in TaL that breaks up leading guild and alliances.
The top guilds use Eclipse to farm bots in the dungeons and they use this to stay in power.
I have played many games like this that give too much power to certain guilds or individuals and it always ruins the game.
Star Wars Galaxies for example.
Well, that's what you want when it comes to PVP. You want there to be no rewards for winning in that content. Does it stop you from getting loot? Yes, that's the point. PVP and conflict zones and night time, you will not get loot unless you fight. So fight.
You don't need the boss there. You can fight him in your guild when they level up. By guild level 17, you have access to every boss and can fight them 7 times a week. Your progress being stalled by conflict is literally the point of PVP in this game. You can do the same to the enemy by stealing their kills during events, robbing them of world boss loot, or fighting them in domination events. You can even engage in backstabbing and betrayal and screw guilds over with spycraft and diplomacy. Or you can get ever other guild on the server that is sick of these guys to unite and take them down.
People are abusing exploits to try to entrench their power, that's the main issue. Activity abused are using a certain coop event to get 250 activity points. Kill abusers are farming bots in conflict spaces like the Ant Cave, which has no sealed door and they just continuously respawn and reenter. But that's another matter.
He talks about what you are saying.

but back to what was said, lets pretend exploits aren't a thing. you still have dominating players shutting down gear acquisition. obviously this is fixed with more parallel content. that's basically saying T2 should have multiple different weapon and armour that has similar power but you get them through different methods.
bottle necking players into a zone that can turn pvp once a day... you know what also happens once a day? prime time.
