MMORPG: Waste of time, money and no sportsmanship.
MMORPG: Waste of time, money and no sportsmanship.

I have over 20 years of video game experience and, today, I realized something that is important to me.

When I play an online video game, I have to deal with a "server" where my character and all of his progress are located, consequently when a server closes, like permanently, I lose everything and I can no longer continue playing with that particular game, in which I also spent money.

What I want to say is, is it really worth spending time and money on an online video game connected to a server like MMORPGs, where there is no guarantee that my character and the related progress will remain under my control forever?

If tomorrow I stop playing a single player I know that the progress is on my PC (avoiding saves in the Steam cloud) and this comforts me a lot, but with an online game it's like Russian roulette.

An MMORPG also has a second sneaky flaw, in fact unlike a Battle Royale, there is no equality of skill between players and everything depends on what is collected with time or with money. No one is good at an MMORPG, it's just a question of the power obtained with time and money.

In conclusion, blessed is he who manages to play an online video game connected to a server and does not realize that all his efforts could be thwarted by a simple power switch on the server itself.

Rust, in addition to not having a medieval setting like T&L, seems to me to be an online game connected to a server and then you're talking about "wipes", so out of the frying pan into the fire.

Easy solution, dont "invest" money into the game. Especially not this one, you can earn the currency by selling good gear to other players and then buy the battle pass/cosmetics/etc. I made 1.5k lucent today just running dungeons and selling the purple extracted lithographs. 1.5k lucent=$30

you'd be surprised to find out what happens to all the games you've bought on Steam if the platform decides to shut down for whatever reason

Did you understand that if the server goes down you lose everything you've achieved ?!

The main point is this.

You'd be surprised that I stopped buying games on Steam and other platforms several years ago and the rest of the sentence I can't tell you.

What's the point of this topic then? Like, you're pondering the obvious here. Are you having a midlife crisis?

Today I took a stand in favor of being free from game servers.

For online gaming it may be, but for offline gaming I don't think so because the game and the progress stay with you for life. One of the reasons I keep older PCs to play old games that don't work on Windows 10 anymore.

Quite the opposite, in fact I don't understand where your statement comes from!

In recent years I have played exclusively offline and a few hours of Battle Royale (where the character's progress doesn't matter), however in recent months I felt the lack of a massive online game, but while I was playing T&L, I stopped and said to myself - what am I doing? What will happen to my character if the game is really interrupted after a few months?! Is it worth continuing to play just to see these beautiful settings? What is my goal in playing an MMORPG? -.

Here, after careful consideration I chose to take a position, like taking the "red pill".

You played online games for 20 years and never had one die on you? Or even heard about it from friends or read about it somewhere? The best games in their class are all gone. Asheron's Call, Starsiege: Tribes, Counter-Strike Beta 5, Fat Princess. I envy you not knowing what you're missing.

you are falling into the trap of thinking anything in the game belongs to you . read the terms and conditions and its pretty clear everything belongs to them. just saying
