What is considered to be melee attack?

I ask because in some builds, guides combine 2 pieces of the field general set in range builds (bow/staff px).Can you do melee attack with range weapons (if you are close to the target)?

Please don't answer if you don't know for sure.

being in melee range doesn't make a fireball a melee attack lol.

idk what is there to explain, melee attacks are melee attacks...

why then maxroll use 2 pieces of field general set that gives melee heavy attack chance in range builds?
i asked if someone knows for sure .i can make hypothesis too.

Simple, either because someone with actual knowledge made a build and people blindly follow it, or because people see an actual benefit in those items aside from the things that do not benefit their build
