hmm it isnt working for me either...
i can play battlefield 3 skyrim and all other games fine but this game doesnt even want to launch?!
i try to start it and then it asks me to turn off all applications, then i click ok, then my screen goes black and then i get an error with the game... I'll try to uninstall and install it again to see if that will fix my problem...

I was having the same issue, tried reinstalling and a bunch of options. Then i remembered some older games had issues with installing to anything but the normal "C:" path. I use a secondary hard drive to install games so, I reinstalled it on my C drive instead and it works just fine now (other than the once in a while lock ups everyone else seems to have) Hope this helps.

I'm having the same issue as well, When I start it opens a black screen and then immediatly says that it has stopped working. I'm running on win7 x64, tried uninstall/reinstall and it does the same thing. If someone has a resolution to this problem I would greatly appreciate it.

Me too, has anyone found a fix for this yet?

I am also having this issue. It warns me to make sure I have nothing else running and even with everything closed out, I get an error that immediately pops me out of the game. So I am yet to actually be able to load into the game.

Windows 7 64Bit
GeForce GTX 660
16 GB Ram

And I have tried moving the game to my C: drive. This did not work for me.

Ok! I fixed mine! Lets see if this fix will work for the rest of everyone else as well. After noticing a lot of the problems was this people and using Windows 7 I decided to make sure the compatibility mode was working.

Install Blood Omen 2 onto a C: Drive Folder
Go to the Blood Omen 2 Folder --> SteamLibrary\SteamApps\common\Blood Omen 2 Legacy of Kain
There will be a file called bo2 along with a folder called Data and binkw32.
Right click on bo2 and go down to properties.
Click on Compatibility up near the top left.
Under Compatibility mode check the box "Run this program in compatibility mode for:"
And then click the drop down and select Windows 7.
Under settings, check the box for "Run in 256 colors"

If it still does not work, try setting it to Windows XP Compatibility.

If a settings.cfg file appears in the folder with your game you should be able to start the game up through steam now.

And whatever you do, if you do get it working, do not put your configuration about 1280, it will immediate crash if you do.

I've tried everything I've found so far. I've used the Defiance Bink file, I've tried numerous compatibility settings including running in 256 color and running 640x480 in case my resolution was too high. Nothing seems to work. I only have one drive on this computer and it's C: so that's not an issue. I'm running Win7 64bit like most of the people having problems. If anyone has found anything that works, it would be most appreciated if you could let us know what worked for you. Thanks.

Check if you have DirectX 8.1 installed.

I just got this game, I am Running it on a Windows 8.1 system, it will start but will freeze up quite suddenly and quite often, forcing me to Hard-Restart my system. I have had to do this almost 20 times in about 2 days... I even Re-Installed it. Could someone please help?

Try the following:
Launch the game, atl-tab out of it, go to task manager, right click on BO2.exe, select affinity, uncheck all and check only CPU 0.

Found that elsewhere in thise forums, did not completly stop the freezes but i had much less.

Since this has been a recent distribution by steam, does anyone know if they plan on releasing additional patches to help make this a little more compatible? they are saying its compatible up to windows 7 but even users on that platform are still having issues and windows 8 doesn't make that much of a difference.

I just would like to play this game again, as it has been a while. Not that I mind loosing $7 if I can't play it, but it would be awesome if I could.

The other issue I have been having with this game is that bo2.exe is continually being scanned by my virus software and saying it has a potential risk. I've had to add a scan exclusion against it so that it does not continue to try to quarantine the file.

GoG Version runs pretty fine. As usual, it's better to get older games there since they are better patched.

Setting compatibility with Windows 98 finally made it work for me.
