Water as a weakness is possibly adapted from lesser known vampire folklores. In the Legacy of Kain/Nosgoth mythos water is linked to life and vitality, and vampires are creatures of the undead, so it's fitting that a substance beneficial to humans and other living creatures is deadly to vampires.

Well it depends on the Vampire generation and what they "herited" from their "creator". Basicly is every Vampire weaker against something the higher the generation goes.

Means the very 1st Vampire is nearly immune to everything that could hurt all following generations and already the 2nd generation he creates is weaker to these things. Vampires from the 2nd generation that create an 3rd generation are also weaker to these things and this goes so on all the time.

But in fact this leaves the big question the how maniest generation of Vampires Kain belongs to due simple water alone can hurt/kill him.

To be totaly blend in Nosgoth of the Kain/Soul Reaver Series it seems that the basic rules of the Vampires are totaly diffrent or it gives several tales so that it gives no "real" way for the Vampires.

In SR1 every Vampire developed his own style over the years and everyone had his own special ability that made him unique. Cus basicly all 7 (former Seraphan) Lieutnants where created by Kain they all should belong to the same next generation and have the same powers/abilities/etc that Kain had but in a weaker form. Instead of this everyone developed his own (what was kind of a bad thing for Raziel in the end).

Cus my last playing of SR1 is way to long i don´t remember the name but 1 Vampire Lieutnant developed an immunity to water over the years, while the other Vampires still get hurt or can die when they come into contact with the water

Old vampire mythos - vampires can't cross running water. The developers interpreted it as water burning vampires like acid.
As a tradeoff, Kain is unhurt by the sunlight, it only slightly weakens him.

Water hurting Kain is actually fairly consistent throughout the series. BO1 has the same thing and you need a power to transform into mist to walk over it. Raziel initially takes damage from water in SR1 but after the second boss he gains the ability to swim

"Cannot cross running water" is kind of a classic vampire weakness since... well ever.

How heavy was that rock you were under?
