Blood Omen 2: Legacy of Kain

Blood Omen 2: Legacy of Kain

Black Screen on start up. Help needed!
I've looked through these forums as well as the Eidos and GOG forums and haven't been able to find a fix yet. I start up the game and I can hear the intro, music, etc but the screen is pitch black. I've tried different compatability modes, setting affinity, run as administrator and nothing seems to work.

Any help or assistance on this would be greatly appreciated. I'm running on Windows 7 64 bit.

Thanks in advance.

I've still been trying to fix this. Any thoughts?

Got the same issue, Running as Administrator and in XP (SP3) or even '-fullscreen' doesn't work. I'd love to know how to fix this!

You are the first person I've found who has reported the same issue as me. I've been looking since I posted this and still have found no way to fix it. It's super frustrating.

I'm sure it's just a GFX compatability issue but have no idea what to do to resolve it.

What did you use to edit the variable files?

Press the Windows button on your keyboard + R and type "regedit" and navigate to Blood Omen 2. I believe it's under Crystal Dynamics. From there you can edit various graphics options including resolution. Hope it works for you.

Thank you very much for the post to the gog thing. The game was starting for me, but I couldn't change the resolution. I made a shortcut and put -setup behind the link to the program. When that ran I uncheck sync refresh and changed my resolution to my native 1440x900 32bit. It works perfectly now. Now just to get the controller working. lol

Another solution : just allow one of your core and the game should go fine... Working for me.

This game has some issues running on multicore CPUs. Here is what I did. Put in compatabilty mode WIndows 98 on BO2.exe in the directory it is located in mine is in

c:\program files (x86)\steam\steamapps\common\blood omen 2 legacy of kain

once you are there right click on BO2.EXE and go to properties and the compatabilty tab then select Win98. After you do that open a CMD window from start> RUN and type CMD. Once you have the DOS window open navigate to the directory where BO2.EXE is located using CD command in DOS. typically a

CD c:\program files (x86)\steam\steamapps\common\blood omen 2 legacy of kain

If that does not work you might have to do a CD\ to get to the root and use dir and CD to step your way up to that correct directory. If the BO2.EXE is not where I say it is do to a custom steam setup a search from RUN or in Windows explorre should show you the full path. Once you are there you need to do the following in the DOS prompt

BO2.EXE -setup

If you did it right it will popup a window that will allow you to select a resolution.

note the screen will go black for about 5 to 10 seconds before the pop up

I have Width 1024 height 768 bit depeth 32 bit (60 Hz) just use the drop down what you think works best for you. Note the FMV is a little choppy (must be PAL) but the video graphics work pretty smooth for me. The screen will have funny colors till you set the resolution settings and hit ok.

You can actually copy and paste those commands I put in my post on to your CMD DOS window. Note Ctrl V does not work on the CMD DOS window, What you will need to do is right click with your mouse on to the CMD DOS window then select paste. I'm a big fan of copy and paste because it makes things easier.

Enjoy, happy gaming.
