Are there any other games like this?
I've always loved Anachronox. The way the comedy comes through, the amount of love that went into this game I have a hard time finding that in any other game except Morrowind. Maybe I'm showing my age. I'd really like to find more games that have that comfortable, loving, laughing feeling and the Steam recommendations aren't doing it justice. Does anyone know of any game that I might find enjoyable that are in this sort of vein? Doesn't have to be RPG or anything similar in style.

I highly recommend Vampire The Masquerade : Bloodlines.
Check youtube first to be sure what you buy, but it's one of the best games ever created in my
humble opinion =]

Yeah, Bloodlines was a good one Viaz. I'll definitely check it out again, used to have retail VTM. Others that come to mind are Mafia 1 and my personal favorite series Gothic 1 & 2. I guess there was a golden age of PC Gaming. A time where gameplay and story were more in tune with something personal. Omikron did that too. Maybe I'm looking at things from my past with Rose-colored glasses or whatever. Hell now I'm remembering GTA III and San Andreas. Anachronox has got me going nostalgic or something.
you might like American McGee's Alice and Heavy Metal F.A.K.K.2. they share the same charm that was common back in those days.

Yep, there goes one I never got to play beyond the demo. Played the hell out of Alice and F.A.K.K 2 but I'll keep looking out for them in the future, hopefully GOG or Steam will add them one day. Now you've got me thinking of Nocturne.
the thing is that there's nothing quite like Anachronox. it's a lovely bend and mix of various styles and themes with a peculiar personality. of course, the same could be said about a ton of games, especially from the current era, but here are some rather

obvious chocies:
Blade Runner, Deus Ex, Nightlong: Union City Conspiracy, Gemini Rue, Beneath a Steel Sky
each plays in its own and unique utopistic cyberpunk universe, protagonist wears a trenchcoat, Sun is an unknown lightsource and it's always rainy. love.

not so obvious choices, but might be worth to check out:
Kingpin, Clive Barker's Undying, Devastation, SiN, Final Fantasy VII, Septerra Core, I Have No Mouth and I Must Scream, Shadowrun, Planescape Torment, Strife, System Shock, Outcast, The Longest Journey, Dreamfall, Syndicate, Red Faction, Sanitarium

apparently it would be easier to find a match if you narrowed down the circle or highlighted a particular concept.

that's a tough one as there are way too many games with such features, but if you seek cult-classics only then in addition to many from above here's what comes to my mind:
Elder Scrolls (if you start up Daggerfall now your grandchildren might be able to finish it..), Fallout, S.T.A.L.K.E.R, Arcanum: Of Steamworks and Magick Obscura, Icewind Dale, Baldur's Gate, Neverwinter Nights, Temple of Elemental Evil, Wasteland, Diablo.

i haven't played them all, only known of, but i guess they all fit your description in one way or another.

Anachronox has a great atmosphere, I know there's a laugh to be found at every corner. I'm thinking it reminds me of the old Saturday Morning cartoons. A gang of characters band together to save the world but in a funny, entertaining way. Maybe I'll have a look at the credits maybe a certain developer or writer has been a part of other games and made them just as special?

BTW is it bad that I've played at least some of every one of those games except Gemini Rue and Blade Runner? Some would say I had no life but I know I certainly did, how did I find all that time lol?

Chrono Trigger. I believe Tom Hall was a fan of that game and based Anachronox on it. Both are extremely similar in design and are light hearted.

A couple of suggestions come to mind:

Outcast (I know milkman above mentioned it too, but this really deserves another mention!).
Giants: Citizen Kabuto.

The latter is really funny imho, but both have humour in them. Also basically sci-fi and open world. They are from about the same time period as Anachronox too (Well, 1999 - 2000, so they're not new any longer).

I remember MDK2 being light hearted and having some good humor. It's been so long though and I'm not sure how well the game (and the humor) have aged.

The Bard's Tale (2004) might be up your alley.
Ooph, smells like.. old games in here. I'll stay for a while.

This is essentially a PC JRPG and obviously the first suggestion would be Chrono Trigger and other console JRPGs/tactics games, such as Xenogears, Chrono Cross, Earthbound, Dragon Quest series, Tales series, Final Fantasy series...

Id suggest Omikron: Nomad soul,Vampire the masquarade redemption and Bloodlines afterwards
