Fretless - The Wrath of Riffson

Fretless - The Wrath of Riffson

Demo review
Ambient soundtrack is great. Environments look nice. But there isn't much else to compliment on this game. The premise of this game is uninspired, a music RPG can be as weird and wacky and funny as your imagination allows but this game is playing it completely safe, it's a run of the mill turn based RPG in a generic fantasy setting with forgettable characters with occasional rhythm elements. Why have a card-based battle system in a music game? QTE based combat like the Mario RPG games would fit the musical theme much better. Maybe your cards could all have a couple of notes assigned and then "Shred" would have you play out the notes like Ocarina of Time, for some extra damage or effects. 15 minutes into the demo and beyond aesthetics this game has barely anything to do with music which seems like a wasted opportunity. In the first area someone makes a joke about the Tone Gods or something, I sincerely hope the full game has more to offer than reddit jokes and references to Spinal Tap.

The deckbuilding screen is very dense, it doesn't use the screen space efficiently

Load screens are a bit long for how small the areas are

Agree with another post that the battle music deserves to be catchier, RPG games live and die by the battle music and a music-based RPG doubly so.

An inventory screen would be nice so you can see what you have equipped

Improve the dialogue in the village, give them more puns, something to make them entertaining

Hi!
Thanks for your feedbacks.
Know that the game has changed a lot since the release of this demo. For example we've added QTE in our combat system. We also changed a lot of things in the combat system.
We hope to soon be able to show everyone the changes we've made!
