Anima Gem upgrade 39 & 40

Does anyone know what monsters you need to lose a life on to get those specific animals?

there aren't any specific monsters. you need to be humanoid form to get them. try dying without resisting the transformation at the 5th death, and die 4x after that and you'll probably get one of them. they're mutually exclusive, so you can't get them both in one set of 9 lives

I don't think so, I got them pretty easily. I get one pretty much every time, and it's just a 50/50 chance

I keep getting TRex or Whale here. Never Soul Beast. I think I’ve tried over 50 times at this point both with Reapers and Locke’s second battle and no luck. And they’re supposed to have *higher* odds of Soul Beast too. RNGesus frowns on me. Any tips or secrets to unlock the Soul Beast (I think that’s what it’s called?) Fatal Move would be appreciated.

(Ah, after looking it up, it looks like Soul Beast is actually a 2 spirit gauge move. So I guess that makes it mutually exclusive with the Axoqotl and other similar moves. Still have had AWFUL luck rolling those too, but now I know to focus less on Fatal Moves)

Finally got it by setting TRex to my 6th death skill. Seemed to raise the odds of getting a 2 Spirit Bar Special Skill on my 8th death and guaranteed a Special Skill instead of a Fatal Skill on my Novem Death. But phew! Finally got it.

Nice, I ended up getting those two eventually, now i'm very close to 100% in achivements

i'm missing Anima Gem upgrades 38 & 39.
can i get some help pls?

So Soul Beast, Whale, and Trex can ONLY be collected as Human Kuon is what I'm picking up here, right? I was getting tired of trying to farm deaths.

Hey can you only get 38 & 39s upgrades after getting the second gauge? I didn’t get soulbeast yet but I did get the axolotl twice in soulplane but didn’t get its upgrade node to unlock yet. I’m doing a 1st time run on eternity mode if that affects anything. I’m trying to get the worst endings and fully upgrade early but don’t know if I blocked myself out of anything.

i to got the axolotl without its upgrade node to unlocking. the other, i have yet to see.
