Secondly, I do agree that Crit Ranger is one of the more overpowered builds currently running. It can be countered pretty easily if you choose to, but I don't believe it's power is well in line with the current rock/paper/scissors style meta balance. It's not very far out of whack, but I do agree that it probably needs tweaking.
Being able to counter it is not the same as it being balanced. I don't want to see it nerfed into oblivion, but some small adjustments are probably warranted. If the developers data is any good and if I'm not totally off my rocker, I think we'll probably see some minor nerf to crit rangers in the next few patches.
As for what specific part overpowered and thusly deserves a nerf, I actually think it's probably the Djinn Lamp. The devs made it be pretty specific conditions to trigger the +27 damage, but a skilled Ranger should have no trouble meeting those conditions at the start of the battle, or very shortly there after. If they've achieved guaranteed crits as they should have, this becomes +54 damage each hit and is one of the biggest factors of most instakill crit ranger builds that I've seen.
Perhaps something like reducing the damage boost of Djinn lamp to +9, but requiring only 3 each of mana, spikes, armor, and luck to do so would help reduce the overpowering gains a little. If anyone else thinks a different solution would be better, please chime in as I don't claim to be an expert on balance.
edit:
This is one other thing to keep in mind is that, overpowered crit-rangers aside, Rangers aren't exactly the strongest class or the easiest to get through the early to mid game with. I think they deserve a few buffs too, even if crit rangers may need some small nerf of some kind.
If you build isn't the type to kill in 6s, use scaling and time to do damage
(Poison, ramping damage etc, and you have 0 defense, you should review your priority while making your backpack)
The hero longsword / smallbowstacking. (Just taking a popular build right now) Is the kind of burst build that can't substain itself(They use stamina as a burst battery). Moonshield Or any version that can block range attack will drain their stamina to the ground and negate easily half the damage at the end. Usually they have to invest in stamina potion to make sure they have enough stamina to substain their burst.
Stone helm will help with the crit chance and reduce some of the early burst where they use a lot of their stamina. Bonus it help again dagger build a lot by reducing the chance of getting stun.
Cap of disconfort will help again buff build (Clover) to reduce how fast they reach the 20 luck and reduce a few buff they will gain while helping with regain build.
