1) Hammer.
You get a lot of money from breaking pigs, and the immediate boost from hammer is often enough to get a win or two early. Gems are very good if you have tempo for them.
Ideally you want up to 3 (poison) daggers (+ a unique one) and several heroism potions.
Defensive either 1-2 potion lines, a vampiric armor and/or holy armor + books.
2) Death Scythe
Very yolo build, 3-4 poison potions and you're blowing stuff up.
Ideally you pick up a second scythe.
Death potions are not really needed, maybe 1-2 on the very end of a chain that doesn't fire too early.
Some general tips:
Buy Fly Agaric and Goobert in the shop. Craft Poison Goobert.
Buy Pestilence Flasks.
Craft the new recipe, Pandamonium.
If you are using the Box of Riches (gems), use Emeralds.
Try to position items in your inventory to trigger/activate as fast as possible, or use Jynx Torquilla, Fanny Packs, Gloves of Haste etc. to increase their speed.
Never thought to use potions with death scythe, assumed it only worked for weapons (just like i assumed the backpack only works for weapons and not food). So i tend to stack hexblade, hero sword, and a bunch of daggers in the poison backpack with the scythe surrounding it. Couple bananas if im using another stamina using weapon other than scythe until I can get flutes.
Just need the game to give me more damn poison potions =P
I meant the pestilence flask, couldnt recall what it was called.
It would be unusual to see it in the shop before round 6.
So for early game, I'd look for Fly Agaric and Goobert, as they are both Rare and likely to appear before the Pestilence Flask.
And all your cool ♥♥♥♥ is epic+, you can even skip goobert if it doesn't fly into your hands.

Wasnt really sure if I should position my second bird at the flutes or at the mushrooms/scythe as im not fully sure how cooldowns work when you get them stacking together.
(50% from flutes innate cooldown reduction ability, up to 40% from bird, if 2 birds stack to 80% or they just get to the 40% cap quicker)
Really looking forward to the full release of the game so magic builds may be easier to make work.
For weapon, i get a falcon. Then get a poison Goobert if possible. Both arn't that hard to get and the falcons high attackspeed on top of it's speed-stars allow you to easiely stack through goobert and backpack. (it even synergises well with pandemonium)
After that, try to get gems rolling and focus on defense. Shields and food. Poison isn't front-loaded, unless you get a hell lot of potions. So don't fret on getting smaragds in backpack slots to turn some poison into twice the regeneration.
Since you are killing somewhat slow, slow down the enemy. Here falcon is your bread and butter. With some speed you can get it to 1 sec cd, it has 2 gem slots and hits twice. Slot a high quality saphire and amethyst to clear his buffs and stack ice, while it's attacks passively generate poison. This helps against other poison and most spike builds, as they need their buffs to sustain/reflect damage.
I generally take mr. Struggles. the debuff reflection is just to nice agaisnt other poisons. And the boost during fatigue, especially on scaling defensive items is juicy.
there's only a few things you need to prioritize first and foremost:
1) Poison dagger
-it generally just helps with the build by giving 2 poison per hit
2) Mr. Stuggles (class item)
-this makes it so that you have +30% chance to proc again the last debuff you inflicted, meaning you would proc 2 poison if you had proc'ed 2 poison before hand with any other item.
3) Defensive items
- you mainly want to target getting them as early as possible since this build ultimately relies on it to work,
-as you can see i generally just try to look for Shield of Valor and Holy Armor in the late game phase.
4) Pandamonium (new item)
- this is good for the build because for every food item (fly agaric?/mushroom) that activates you have that is starred on it will also proc 1 poison, it has four available slots for that so that means it'll add 4 more proc to poison
5) Death Scythe (unique item)
- this makes it so that every item that is starred by it inflicts double the poison
6) Corrupted crystal
- this really really really good because you are able to generate a ton of armor with it, for every 5 debuff you inflict gain 8 armor, so you understand the math
with this build alone you dont even take a single point of dmg at least not with the runs that i've had because you'll generate insane armor with it which is over 1000+ armor, here are proof of it,
1562 armor / 208x poison ( https://imgur.com/a/YTirctG ),
1280 armor / 149x poison ( https://imgur.com/a/hsIqfo8 ).
have fun lol
