Why do we lose 99% of our inventory on death.
I'm so sick of losing nearly everything on my person when I die in co-op. I go back to my body and only get back the starter axe and MAYBE if I'm lucky a few sticks and a snack. Where is everything going? The cannibals aren't rushing to my body and stealing everything.

And what's more annoying is losing "exclusive" items like the Rebreather and Modern Axe. They don't respawn, so once you die you've lost them forever. Absolutely awful design choice there.

Why not give us a difficulty setting where we don't lose inventory at the very least?

I'm not sure of the philosophy behind it myself, but to counter it just save frequently. If you die, exit the game and reconnect with your save file. You'll have it all back.

This is a bad tip and you should feel bad. There are so many random things that can randomly kill you in this game, a lot due to it still being early access, that you shouldn't lose your items permanently. If you can make your way back to your body you shouldn't still lose items. What is the logic there?

It's an artificial way of making the game harder and it's ♥♥♥♥. It isn't realistic either and totally throws immersion out the window. What, did the deer decide they could really use my flares?

In which reality are you able to walk back to your own body if you die? xD

In which reality are you able to have infinite lighter fluid? Or why do the cannibals take 10+ hits to kill? Why can you use an axe infinitely, never worrying about it getting blunt after chopping down an entire forest? Why can you carry two giant logs at once? Etc. Etc.

Some of them are for the sake of gameplay. Being able to go back to your body to get your loot is convenient, but honestly I think they need to have difficulty modes. One that's realistic (no going back for your loot, lighters use some sort of gas/cloth/sap, enemies take more realistic damage and aren't sponges, but you can't take many either, etc.) and one that's easier/casual/whatever you want to call it (don't lose inventory on death, enemies take realistic damage but you take less, infinite lighter fluid, etc.)

Well in which reality are you raised from the dead to be able to return to your first corpse?! OP has a good point.

If they wanted to make a death penalty, a more LOGICAL move would be that when you die, your body is looted by the cannibals so your body is moved to a native camp and hanging up awaiting dinner and your stuff is there. Then you can party up to try and get all your stuff back or forget it and start over.

Try making it harder on yourself. I did one time when I thought I was king of the forest. I started using only the cargo axe and the loot I found the first time through a suitcase or a cave. I then had some booze, snacks, soda, meds, no digital bombs and only 4 sticks of dynamite and one flare gun with 10 flares. Stuff I carry on a boat (except for the dynamite!).

Then you have to find a safe place to live, build shelter and find local food from animals and berries, water from ponds(no turtle water fountains). The lighter will be unlimited. You can't use ropes. Limit of 50 cloths total.

Now go play, survive, locate and retrieve clues about the Forest and about Timmy.

If you die, you have to restart the game; with the above material. you can do this without changing the game for others, if you want to. I did.

Enjoy---

I agree that yu should NOT lose ALL of your items on death. Sometimes you die, that happens, but when you lose 14 DAYS of gameplay items because you died right next to your spawn and the players on your server don't want you to revert to the last save, that is incredibly unfun. I agree that it is an artificial way to increase the difficulty and is more rage inducing than the actual death itself.

Also I don't understand the post above mine. Your solution to losing special items when you die is to play more minimalistically? or is your advice just "don't die?" Because that has never been an adequate solution to "the game punishes you unfairly when you die"

The problem is it really hurts gameplay!

You spend an IRL week playing on a map, accumulating resources like cloth, coins, wrist watches, feathers and teeth, special weapons and items like the casette tapes and the diving mask and-

You got launched into the air by an errant bug.

You fall and die and lose EVERYTHING. You go from being self sufficient to being close to death because your items dematerialized for no reason. Your players have a lot of content they don't want to lose so you can't just restart at the last save, you have to spend the next day regathering all the things you already got.

That's not fun and that's the opposite of relaxing!

play single player for the solid gameplay and co-op for short blasts co-op is far behind single player.
you lose nothing in single player mode.
but anyway your solution is an easy one just save often if you die leave and rejoin problem solved.

Plz reread my last sentence....I thought about a longer response but after thinking about it I think maybe you need a different team of players, with emphasis on the "team". I've died 'unfairly' both in SP and MP modes, but I'm still playing the game cuz it's fun right now as it is being developed. BUT, if those same problems are in the game when it's finished I'll just find another game to play. I'll be disappointed...

Someone said to me a long time ago that I'd be happier if I saved every time I started a new action or survived a current crisis. In SP I play, and save, in Slot 1 and save in Slot 2 as well just in case!

I'm still trying to get active in COOP with the right team. I'm now trying to figure out how to establish a host status so I can admit AND kick out those who really don't want to play as a team member. I last played coop a long time ago, with MOUL. Great game and great team...
