Co-op problems "Steam not initialized"

My friend and I are trying to play together but he is having an issue were if he clicks co-op, join game or create game a display pops up and says "Steam not initialized" any help?

i allredy reinstall Steam and game, and the problem is gone away. Thx

Try Reinstalling the game if that doesnt work then reinstall steam If it still didnt work tell me

If you were also getting a message stating that it is a different game than the one you are trying to join, it was because one of you just needed that latest forest patch to install, which it probably did after you restarted steam. Anyway, that is why this issue occurs.

I had the problem and have a fix. Close steam. All instances. Go into command prompt and any steam process close them. Then re launch steam. Fixed.

Same issue cannot fix... reinstalled game, reinstalled steam, even tried reinstalling OS... and wont issue a refund

just restart steam or reinstall it.
