How do the saves work in co-op?

Just curious how the save files work in this game for Co-op, some friends and I played together last night, I was not the host, but if I try to "continue" the game there are no save files present even though I did perform the save action within our cabin. Thanks in advance.

i think the host has to save the game, and then you save the game to save your file in his game. But you still need the original host and his game to play your file.

This is actually a good question and I've come across with a co-op save problem too.

If you happen to play with two different computers (let's say ja PC and a laptop), the save file needs to be manually updated. What this means is that when you are playing on a server that someone else is hosting, you do need to save and your computer saves a local file to the save file (found at Appdata -> LocalLow -> SKS -> The Forest -> 7892..... --> Multiplayer --> cs). If you save on the PC and move on to your laptop, the game does not automatically know where to continue unless you have updated the data.

I don't know this may seem as obvious information for some but was a huge deal for me and my girlfriend when we could not figure out why the co-op save did not work when switching computers.
