Not true and your design idea does not work in water, as my example shows. Yes, I COULD have built on land, but didn't want to. Besides, even if I had, I may have gone through my floor because it's above ground level...idk.
If one started a procedural ladder at the anchor point, they could pull it down to the length needed and it would cost "X" amount of logs / sticks. The same could hold true for a procedural rope (vs fixed length), but climbing a rope with logs is even more far-fetched that a ladder and logs. I have no real preference (rope vs ladder) as the result would be the same.
Custom floors need to be built on either foundations or the top(s) of experimental walls. Click the "cylinder" icon on an x-y axis starting point. Walk along the foundation (or wall) to the next point and click. Continue around your design, but remember that one needs to do this in a continuous clockwise or counter-clockwise direction. It'll take some practice because "we" look at the icon on an angle, so hitting the exact point one wants can be a little "stressfull?" They need to "highlight" the icon in a diff. color when over a intersection point.
Anyway, I DO agree with you in regards to implementing procedural ladders. The game would be better with both ladders and climbing ropes!
I haven't tried to attach ropes to a platform yet...am in the process of thinking about something new utilizing them. As I'm sure you know, you should see an "anchor" icon prolly underneath for a connection point. Supposedly one can use 2 ropes with platforms (I assume 1 at each end), but if you recall, the last two updates said that if one chops down a treehouse tree, the house would also fall down, which wasn't true, so idk... I don't think the platforms need to be a certain height, well, perhaps maybe at least 2 "levels" high? Look for the anchor icon - LMK if you find them.
Was your pre-built platform pre-13? If so, there'd be no connection point for that "old" element, you'd have to build a new one.
Edit: I just saw a friends set up and he had platforms daisy-chained with tree bridges, so the anchors gotta be there. :)
