Saplings - The Ability to Regrow Trees
I just want to say first, is that I don't have a problem with getting wood in this game. It is not rare and with a log sled, transportation isn't a real big issue.

My issue comes from how ugly I make the island look turning it from a lush forest into a stumpy wasteland. While it does have strategic advantages such as preventing cannibals from climbing them and leaping at you from above, it overall makes the landscape desolate and empty. It also means that lumber in this game is finite, meaning people who want to do mega building projects will be limited. If I recall correctly, the devs also have plans to make the cannibals able to destroy houses and walls via burning them down in the future.

What we need is a means of obtaining more trees. Perhaps when you chop trees, there's a chance you'll get a sapling to drop. Planting them down will allow you to grow more trees. It doesn't have to be instant for balancing purposes, they can grow over the course of several in-game days.

Also, to work around this suggestion, we should get rid of the stumps as that will very easily clutter up the landscape.

IDEA:
Friend suggested that if you chop the stumps, they can yield the saplings. This will allow you to both get rid of stumps as well as gathering saplings.

Like idea even if the regrow time should be long like 60-90 IG days.

I agree. Should be long grow time. Maybe you could burn out the stumps.

That would be awsome, I have a lot of strumps everywhere in my base.

I was thinking the same thing! This would be awesome.

Maybe thats the real reason the mutants are angry with you. Before you came, they lived in harmony with nature, never taking too much. But now you're here and you're killing everything in sight and destroying the beautiful forest...maybe the player is the real monster here...

Saplings would be cool =)

Yes, I thought that many times, but consider also that even if you don't chop any trees down, they'll still try to attack and kill you.

This suggestion has been bought up a zillion times, but people, get real. Trees take decades to grow and large ones a hundred. I think we all should know this by now. When one builds a huge base and deforests the forest, well, that's what ya get. Planting saplings and having them grow into trees over "X" amount of game-days is not only silly, but totally unrealistic. Just MHO.
