How about a cooler? Go collect snow, put it in some new crafted cabinet and store meat that way. It could last longer than the Drying Rack before spoiling.
Yeah but after a while in drying rack meat spoils.
Maybe batteries can cover the electricity part it's just an idea after all
Batteries would power an entire refrigerator?
A refrigerator requires more than electricity. Among other things it requires freon. It would be extremely contrived to put a workable one in game.
The most viable refrigeration method for the game would be a zeer pot. It's basically a small terracotta pot with a smaller terracotta pot inside it with a layer of wet sand in between the two pots and a cloth covering the top. It uses aeration to lower the temperature inside by as much as more than 10 degrees. On breezy island like the one in the Forest a large one could be used to prolong the shelf life of raw and cooked meat for a few days.
While really cool to learn about this and crafting one would add Alot to the survival feel, had I not stumbled upon this I would never have thought to try to make a zeer pot or known what it should be used for if I found one. I think for extended storage of food the best route (currently) I think would be the cooler idea as it would be more understood.
A really good idea there it would keep the realism of the game
