Logs don't float?
House boat and raft floats, why don't logs? It would be nice to float logs along the shore line instead of using the log sled.

Game physics I think

some fresh cut logs do not float IRL, this is because they contain lots of sap and water inside them making them very heavy. Alot of times a log only floats when it has been cut long ago allowing the log to dry.

The trees of the forest are pine trees. Pine tree lumber floats. Freshly cut pine has a lower density than water. The disparity between its density and salt water is even greater so it would float even higher. This is generally true of almost all forms of lumber.

The notion that the sap makes them less dense than water is misinformed. The only time lumber sinks in water is when it becomes water logged from absorbing so much water when it is in the water for a long time.

They sink in the game because most objects are coded that way. I'm not sure what kind of impact it would have on performance if the game had to track their movement in the water.

but some trees are not pines, and not all water in the game would have salt in it. tbh it would take work to make certain logs float/sink so i'm against this idea for now.

Agreed they are already light enough to fly round when you drop a tree in the wrong place and if they were any lighter things would get loose.

I didn't say just pine trees. The claim that logs don't float in water generally isn't true regardless of whether its fresh water or salt water. You're simply wrong as to why logs in the game don't float in water when it's simply a matter of game physics.

no.. ,there are still some unseasoned timbers do not float, including ones that live on an enviroment like the game has. This is why beavers can build dams. To make the game truly realistic would require both sinking and non-sinking ones. This requires certain mechanics and would need to fix clipping issues with the logs
