Building into the pit
Okay so this thread is part suggestion and part rant because I have just wasted a whole lot of time doing something that it turns out cannot be achieved because of the current game mechanics.

I am trying to build a staircase all the way to the bottom of the pit. I have tried to do this on a number of occasions but I keep hitting game mechanics that prevent it. I first tried to build from the bottom up but that is not possible because any logs that you throw into the pit simply disappear part way down.

This time I started from the top and started building a staircase heading down. It was going quite well and was not even that difficult to do until you get about a quarter of the way down. Then all of a sudden you hit an invisible barrier that the custom staircase cannot penetrate.

For some reason, placing platforms attached to the walls is possible below the level of the invisible barrier is allowed although completely pointless. Originally I thought I would try to build platforms attached to the walls with ropes hanging from them for you to descend into the pit but then it dawned on me that beyond building the first platform, there is no way of getting the logs to any platform you build lower down.

My suggestion, make it possible to build the staircases past the invisible barrier. I now have a completely useless staircase going a quarter of the way into the pit. What would be really good is if a developer would actually reply to this to say whether that is even a possibility. I have written a number of posts about building staircases into the pit and never once has a developer replied to tell me it wasn't possible.

Oh, by the way, from the bottom of my now useless staircase I noticed deer that fall into the pit land on the invisible barrier, do not die, and run around on the barrier. They can be seen running in mid air and though a giant pane of glass was covering the pit about a quarter of the way into it.

You're supposed to be able to build staircase all the way down if I remember correctly from an old update. What gives devs?

I originally got the idea for building the staircase from what the devs had written in the description for the update when they first opened up the pit. Unfortunately they also seem to have changed the ability to climb into the pit. You used to be able to use the climbing axe to climb all the way from the top of the pit to the bottom of the pit. Now most of the walls of the pit are unclimbable.
I think devs removed the feature so you had to explore the caves to get down there... seeing as its supposed to be a challenge getting to the bottom :)

That is fine. But once you have explored the caves down to the bottom, you don't want to have to go all the way through the caves again ever time you want to get down there.

If you want to get down faster just build out to the water in the middle and jump off, or do like i do and jump down in the cave, 1 jump and your halfway to the bottom (requires a bit of practice to avoid the ledges and land in water, i suggest making a temporary shelter at the top to save with). Not that there's really much reason to go back down once you've explored it, except to check for new storyline after updates.

It isn't so much the ability to get down there quick that concerns me. It is more that I find it a total immersion breaker when developers use things like invisible barriers to block players in places where there should be no logical thing stopping you from carrying on. This game has so many elements that are realistic and then they spoil that with something like this.

I also tried to build a shorter way into the sinkhole by using platforms and ropes. In some point ropes simply stop working. When I'm trying to climb up, rope becomes invisible and I can climbing on it without end. Great way for flying.

Look at this:
1. A rope;

2. The result of climbing on it.

Can't go higher. Here is another invisible wall. ;-)
