Clearing terrain of brush and vegetation for base-building
I haven't been playing the game for very long, but I would love to see an option where you can clear entire areas of foliage for base building. Nothing has been more annoying than having grass come up through my floors and having to constantly cut down bushes inside my base. I first noticed it was possible with the rock path and how it clears the path of all grass and foliage once built. Would it be possible to make something similar but works kind of like the custom foundation where you trace an area out and when set it clears it of vegetation?

there was something about save file size or something.. deleting assets within a game world bloats save size during runtime.

Is it really that taxing on a PC? If it's just about size, I don't see the harm. Space on pc's isn't a problem in this age with multi-terabyte drives etc... So am I just missing something in your comment or is there a greater drawback than I'm aware of?

im pretty sure it will majorly slow down loading times and while saving within the game with a bloated file will increase the chances of the game hanging because it has to process all the data.. ive cleared half the map of trees and in 1 session cleared all the brush aswell and wierdly enough didnt see any performance change what so ever despite removing all this junk from the map. so my opinion is that there are deeper workings involved. probs engine based. unity can be a pratt sometimes optimization wise.

Honestly though, what's the difference between loading an excessive amount of structures and loading cleared vegetation? If it was that taxing shouldn't there be a limit on structures also? Technically it should be the same as building a bunch of little structures in an area.

They could always add a cheat code that restores vegetation the same way you restore the hole cutter holes. Then if a problem presents itself you could clear it up.

Clear cutting doesn't remove anything. All forms of vegetation are preloaded preset items. Your chopping down a tree doesn't mean anything contextually with the load of running the game as all points of vegetation are pre-scripted. As in they exist in the exact same places in the exact same way on every single game.

This wasn't meant to be a point of contention or cause arguments fellas. We're all here for the same thing - to present ideas and suggestions. My idea was simply based on my first several hours of gameplay, and based on other games iI've played. I love the look of the game graphically. It's beautifully created. However, that scenery gets in the way when building out an area for a fort, base, or what have you. I happened to like how the rock path cleared the vegetation out of it's area when it was finished, so I thought how cool it'd be to get the distracting vegetation out of the way if you could trace out an area similar to the custom foundation, only on the ground, that would have the same effect as the rock path.

If the grass and the bushes only grew, I grew up in the middle of a house that I had built for a long time, and the house was demolished. Under construction, nothing should grow.

well even with stone or concrete foundations you can still get strong roots splitting the wood/brick walls and windows.

I love this idea, it would really clean up the look of our structures. Would be pretty cool to see a cut grass tool. Or even a new item to find like a strimmer or something.
