console command doesnt work

ive gone through all the walkthroughs to use the console. f1 doesnt work and i dont have an F lock key to prevent it from working and yes cheats enabled is on so i dont know how to get it working

You have enabled the actual console right? cheats enabled on the server means that people are allowed to use the console but it doesn't turn that console on for the host. You have to type "developermodeon" at the main menu before entering the game (without the quotations). You can hit tab or f1 at the main menu to see if it worked as both will bring up sections of the console information. Once it's on, and the server enables it, then f1 should work for entering commands in game.

so when im in the main menu i just gotta type developermodeon without pressing anything before hand?

yep, that is what enables the console to begin with. The server option just decides if people are allowed to use it in that game.

you just type it. theres no prompt that takes place before it. hitting F1 in the main menu is just to make sure you typed "developermodeon" correctly.

its the same concept as using IDDQD in DOOM

I have done all that, I have the console active and the cheats aswell but for some reason when I put a command in it doesn't work

Which command(s) are you trying to use? The wiki is a bit outdated so it may be possible you found an invalid command from yesteryears. That or some of the commands are picky about when you use them (like game mode commands often work best at the title screen while client-based commands are better for when actively in game). Some may also work, but not be initially obvious that they did (like timescale).

Sadly, the wiki is the most up to date list that I'm aware of but it is still outdated. It's usually fine unless you start getting into the more niche and specific commands (like I can never remember exactly what I use to set athletics to 99, but the wiki command isn't it and I usually have to try a few before I remember which one actually works).

Worth noting that gamemodes changed via command often remain active, even on reload or relaunch. If you change the gamemode that way (at least to vegan or vegetarian mode) the title screen itself will also change though. If you ever want to go back to default settings, blindly type "meatmode" at the title screen instead.

If you use the "vegetarianmode" gamemode successfully, your title screen should change to this:
