Game freezes after Intro
Maybe there is a current thread about this problem, but I didn't find a fitting one.

The game starts well and it doesn't loading a long time. But seconds to around two minutes later the game freezes. I continuously hear the sound but the graphic freeze.
I reinstall the game and try different graphic settings. Maybe anyone else have this problem??
I played the game already in alpha state and just want to try it now after the release... Sad that it was running better in alpha.. (?)

My PC: AMD Ryzen 5 1600, 16GB Ram, KFA2 GTX1060 6G, OS: Win10 64bit

Can you both try something for me. In steam, go to your game library, right click the forest, properties, local files and Browse local files. Right click Theforest.exe and create a shortcut and put that on your desktop. Now, press the Windows key and R at the same time on your keyboard and type msconfig and press enter. From this window, click the circle next to diagnostic startup and click OK (not apply as this changes the outcome to what it loads). Now restart. This will load your PC with the pure basics, no steam, no internet, maybe no sound, dont worry.

Now load the game from the desktop shortcut we made without bothering with Steam. I just tried it to check and it definitely runs and i can load a save in this mode. So if u still cannot load the game then it must be an actual game issue or bug. If it actually does work, then u will have to trace it back from there what application u have that is breaking it and/or Windows issue. Maybe close one application at a time and run the game each time. Did one of them fix it? Let them know if u find something!

Do not forget once u are finished, Window key and R again, type msconfig and now click Normal startup and restart.

@ jamesfle i have same issues with random crashes sometimes 5 mins sometimes 10-15 or an hr but my screen just locks the same, this genuinly has only started happening since there 0.99 release on 28th april the 0.73 release i think prior to that was running stable i had 180 hrs uninterrupted in the game but 0.99 broke it for me it got better with 1.03 for me then broke again on 1.05 i think it was 1.06 the game was back to working for me with crashes only every 2-3 hrs but last week sometime we got 1.07 and since then the game is unplayable for me i'm lucky if i get 5 mins in game before i have to alt F4 out of game or hard reset my rig, I have tried all you suggested and just about evrything i have been able to find googling to fix the issue over this last week, and still the same i even went to the extreme of formatting my steam drive and wiping my games library then just installing the forest on its own and it was still the same i have 120+ games in my library i can choose any other game and play without issue. I am gutted as i really do like this game and i miss the 0.73 pre-release so much i desperatly want it back :( to me this prob seems to be system based as like BrainDead i too are using an AMD rig.

I had the same problem, I downgraded to an earlier version of my graphicsdriver and it fixed the problem, the crashes / freezing stopped after that (so far).

Would be interesting if it was an AMD issue, but i dont see why it would happen though.

What driver pack are you Nvidia? I have tried drivers 397.31, 397.35, and now on 397.67 still crashing :(

lmao tried editing it it just put my reply back in it lol anyways what i said lol:

Amd cpu's and unity have been known to not get along with a lot of games, something to do with how Amd's utilize the threads from what i've read here there and everywhere. From posts i've read onthis hub a lot of players with Amd's are having issues whilst many others are not so its a strange one :(

I tried alls steps above and it didn't work for me. I'm also a AMD user, maybe there is an issue for AMD users?

It could be... at least if they see these posts it might give them some where to start looking and testing. But as i said some where else. They are so busy with the VR version, i bet a fix wont be for a while yet. :steamsad:

Alright.. I tested the game now on 3 different systems and your instructions, too.

My Homesever: Win Server 2012R2, I3 3220, 16Gb Ram => It lag as hell (ultra low), but it run stable. Testing for 18 minutes.
My Laptop: Win 10, I5 5200U, Geforce 940M, 8Gb Ram => Testing at low prefs. Run stable currently for 30 minutes and is still running.
My Desktop: Win 10, Ryzen 5 1600, 1060 6g, 16Gb Ram => Tested at different prefs. Tested with diagnostic mode (your instructions, Jamesfie). Never over 2 minutes.

So it seems to be clear, that there is a problem with AMD CPUs...
I hope for a hotfix, soon :/

No problem :) I was interested in this, too. The result isn't pretty cool for the amd community, but now it should be clear, that there is a problem in the game.

Haha, I know this problem.. It isn't that funny to play it on my own intel machines... And my Desktop will never see a Intel CPU ;D Hope for a quick Hotfix now.

same here i have been an AMD man since there k6 cpu's came out many many many moons ago lol, i did read somewhere, towards the end of last year that unity was dropping support for AMD within there game engine? I don't know if this is true, but it does seem strange the number of AMD users posting in the forums on a lot and i mean a lot of unity games since then. So hopefully the devs can fix this prob and its not just a game engine limitation :(

At least it gives them a place to start IF it is that.. which is why giving specs is always recommended for bug reports. :thumbalift:

Hi there - can I get anybody here to try launching the game in 32bit mode to see if that helps?
