Implementations to prevent cheating in multiplayer
Heya,

I'm wondering if there will soon be any way to curb the severe amount of cheating in multiplayer? Like some kind of session/server setting that would either disable console commands, or have some kind of cheat protection that would disable any unorthodox player movement/activities if there are still ways to bypass the prevention of console commands.

Yesterday about 5/8 players who entered my game were cheaters, and one of them was simply unbannable and deleted the entire camp which myself and my friends made. Setting the game to invite only/private is obviously not a solution.

I'm not sure how suitable this thread is for the bug reports forum, but I decided to place it here because such a level of cheating (if any level) is obviously not an intended feature.

As long as you don't enable console.. They can't use it.

They were using cheats from modsapi

Sure they wont mind. But they dont want to monitor players cheating or not. They have added VAC to dedicated servers that u can enable or disable. Coop, there is no other way other than private. Tbh not many games do have a way to block Coop cheaters.

Only things u can do, is run a dedicated server whilst u play the game, its harder to do, but possible if u have a good PC. You run dedicated server and you connect as a client also, as if u were hosting coop if u get me? This would allow u to enable VAC and be public. When u are finished, shut it down, just like u would playing coop. But u will have to learn a little about the DS configs, its pretty simple though. :Hire:

yes ;D Modapi has it's own console ;d

If you want to use developer console in multiplayer then host needs to enable it.

I know it has its own "console" as such. But surely it doesnt work on the premise that the host enables console, THEN u can use modapi. If the host doesnt type developermodeon then modapi doesnt work. Ive seen u cant do major things, like move time and spawn cannibals, only the host can. But, i dont remember having any other issue being client, that i couldnt use my mods. I could use the mods anytime i liked, i just chose not to most of the time.

So i dont get how u mean or it doesnt work like u think?

I'll give running a dedicated server a go, I did try it out yesterday though the log/console that started when i ran the dedicated server had nothing in it but a black window (Unless it's meant to be like that).

I THINK they were trying to say that if the host doesn't have the command console enabled, nobody can? Wariat is heavily into the command console so might not have been trolled by mod.api'ers before, only the console trolls; which WOULD be nullified by having host not enabling the console; but yeah, won't do anything to those with mod.api, they can still grief all they want :'(

Yea it's meant to be like that, basically the game turns your character into a deity, you are the void, and you hold the game world together. This is why you can't use that character and have to start a new one, your old character is busy holding up the world like Atlas

"you" as host.
"they" as clients (griefers included).
"it" as console, I thought about the developer console.

I didn't know about this one ^
Many people complain about modapi just like it works anytime and now I know that the host is griefed because he has enabled developer mode :D

On my single console from mod worked without developermode so I managed to believe the version with it working anytime on MP :D

Nope, I definately don't have the console enabled, all i know is that people join the game posing as normal players, and just give themselves all of the best items from the get go, fly around at 300 mph, and one or two have been completely unbannable/unkickable and have just rapidly deleted structures by aiming at them.

If I host a game from my machine, would I still be able to join it via my machine aswel?

Thanks for the help in advance.

Edit: Forwarded the ports properly (I think), though in the console log it reports "Log: Failed to connect to Steam", I guess i've done something wrong either in the .cfg or forwarding the Steam port?

What can be easier to do is use "The Forest Server Manager", this program makes it all very simple. Obviously there are still parts u need to config, but most is just slider buttons or type something in and click "Save" lol. Make sure to slide the VAC on ;) https://github.com/AdriaanBoshoff/The-Forest-Server-Manager

Edit: I forgot to warn you, step 2 says Install Oxide. My personal theory, is that there are issues with the Oxide mod at the moment. If u install it, boats dont move and if im correct, it also causes a thirst and sleep issue. So have this in mind if u DO or dont install it. It can run without Oxide. :)

Thanks for that server manager tool.

Okay, so I've been messing around a bit with stuff, but I wonder if there's an installation/setup guide for this server tool? I'm not sure i've set things up properly, as the log tells me "Failed to connect to Steam" even with a correct server account token, with (I assume ...) the correct appId.

Any help is much appreciated.
