The chainsaw is gone!

When my friend went down the big hole in the center of the map to pursue the main story he died in that laboratory structure and never went back to get his backpack. He later the next day started to play again and went to all the other caves to reclaim the modern axe, bow, flashlight etc. But when he got to the the actual cave where the chainsaw can be found. It's simply not there anymore. Doesn't matter if he respawns, get killed, don't pick up his backpack after dying. Save and exit the game. Or don't save the game. The result is still the same... no chainsaw. It simply doesn't respawn. When I went down to the chainsaw together with him I could see the chainsaw but not him. But all the other weapons and item does. Anyone who knows anything regarding this matter/problem? Can I somehow give him my chainsaw and then go pick the chainsaw up myself? Is there a fix or is it simply gone forever or is there a slight chance of it respawning if we complete the main story of the game? Thanks in advance

So you mean... if you get the chainsaw from the first spawn location and lose it. It's spawns in another cave different from the first one? Because from the www.theforestmap.com/caves it says that it only spawns in "Cave 3". So... where is this "other cave"?

You know the multiplayer tray, you can place items on and give to the other player? Combine it with the chainsaw and u should be able to give him yours and you get another.

For some reason I can't give it to my friend. I can combine the chainsaw with the tray but there is no option to actually grab it with the hands and give it away :( Is this picture taken from the actual version of the game or previous versions? Without mod?

I managed to solve this! It finally worked to give my friend my chainsaw so that I could pick up the one he couldn't see. Thanks for the advise guys!
