Gun mod?
Before i'm attacked with "you're ruining the game" let me say that its everyone preference what they like in games im honestly fine without any guns but it'd be neat to have one. if it were ever added to the game (i doubt it) they should have like a option to turn it off.

I don't mean guns like a AR-15 or a AK-47 i mean something more on the lines of a revolver or some form of old hunting rifle. finding them would be very rare of course.

Also before you say there was no one who would bring weapons to the island there is alot of ships, If i was visiting a island with unknown fauna i'd bring a gun with me wouldn't you?

The Devs are more than generous with what they allow you to craft / build as it is now, honestly.

The "previous crews have been here" argument is countered by the fact that most of these items would have likely been damaged or looted (by the natives) long before you would ever find them, Spelunkers don't normally carry weapons to ward off man-eating blind cave catfish...

You want a handgun? Fine. Ammo should be so scarce (difficult to come across) and limited (no respawn, ever) that you'd want to reserve it for absolute Armageddon. Use of such a powerful item should also make the mutants crazy aggressive.

A few bullets and a handgun from a lockbox in the plane, just for your first encounter - no problem. Give the mutants the option to come up in the plane after you within the first 5 minutes to even it out. Give it a chance of misfire/backfire, too.

I'd equally argue that:
  • A: Your character would have limited odds of knowing how to even use a gun, thus limited proficiency with it.
  • B: You'd be so shaken up by the fact that your plane just crashed, your son got abducted, and locals are trying to kill and eat you that your aim wouldn't be worth anything other than at point blank.

Once those bullets are gone, your gun becomes nothing more than a shiny scrap of metal.

Clearly the goal of the game is to require other means of protection, etc.

If you want a FPS, go play a FPS.

Nah it makes more sense there would be agun on the island then a dorky sword or cartoonish dynamite. If the natives looted the guns why not everyhing else? why arn't they shooting at you.

I doubt an office drone has the ability to build a log cabin let alone cut down huge pines with a tiny axe too.

I want the natives to be more aggressive the minuteI get out the plane I want to have to fight nit hide in the brush like a beta.

pretty sure like 70% of american campers take firearms or some means of protection with them when camping. Not sure about spelunkers, or hitchikers. Other then myself, of course, who takes a firearm whenever i go camping.

Some people keep thinking that just because they can think of how a gun might have made it onto the island that its a reason why they should be in the game...it's not.

Modern guns would be OP against defenceless savages which = no challenge and boring gameplay that requires no skill...simple.

For those that like a ranged weapon we already have the flare gun and bow which are both more than sufficient.

Of course, but that would mean completely changing the way they've been designing the game, which seems unlikely...and i hope they don't. However if they were to give the cannibals bows, throwing spears, guns etc then I'd say the weapons the players would have could change as well.

It's not like i'm asking for a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ m60.

Well, you said along the lines of a hunting rifle and mentioned the rationale of bringing something to an island of unknown fauna...so that didn't sound like a flintlock. IMO a modern rifle with a scope would be too OP against savages with clubs...just sayin.

I'm curious tho, I see you've played 17hrs, would you say that having a scoped rifle is needed to survive in the game against the savages and mutants?

not needed, but a nice touch.

and no, really. a Scoped rifle is about as useful as a nonscoped one depending on who uses it.
And in all honesty, in the real world, i prefer unscoped rifles over scoped. I really hate scopes, they're obnoxious and if they break you have nothing.
but i digress.

OK, so at least we agree on the fact the rifle isn't needed. You say it would be a 'nice touch', can you maybe explain what that means because I don't understand what that means. I tend to look at game balance as a priority before almost anything else so maybe I'm missing something.

Sorry, I wasn't looking for a definition, i was hoping you could explain how adding a rifle into the game would improve the game...ie make it more challenging or immersive somehow...I dont see it but maybe you can share what benefit you see it bringing

oh ok.

just cause it would be *cool* you know, mang.
make it extremily rare as in almost impossible to find so when you do find it you get a sense of joy and happiness.

OK, I see...so you dont necessarily need it to be a rifle ...any extremely hard to find rare item that has a cool factor would do then? What other kinds of items would fit into that cool factor that wouldnt be OP and unbalance the game....ie like maybe parts of a hanglider that you could eventually assemble and fly all over the island..?
