HOWEVER, I think it would make sense if there was a small chance to find a gun on a dead air marshall.
Well the yauhts (which technically weren't but you get it) and the small row boats which magically appear on the island. Idk who rows a boat across the ocean but whatever floats your boat.
We'd need more backstory to define if adding guns to the game is justified.
As for the gameplay itself, I don't think it's a nice idea, as it takes away the element of constant danger. If I played the game for a while and had a gun, I'd probably be careless as hell, because even if I got attacked, "doesn't matter, have gun".
Lol. Still though i think there should be a mod.
Well, if there are mods for Skyrim that makes Mudcrabs swear "Motherf-er that hurt!" if you hit them, I guess there can be a gun mod for the forest.
Given that the game is still in alpha though, I don't think anybody is going to make one, as it'd probably require quite a bit of coding, which will probably be broken each update again.
Thats true. Plus i can barely aim with a bow imagine a gun.
It wouldnt change the game much or even make it easier provided the balance is right. The games just easy now. Firepower probably be quite minor once you got to worry about going for food and materials eventually, and contend with cannibals during runs.
It would be like shooting fish in a barrel and that just isn't condusive to a challenging survival game. I can't imagine anything worse for this game than introducing weapons like modern handguns or rifles with their OP range, ROF, stopping power and accuracy.
the "defenseless savages" are very powerful. (especially if you're like me and you get 2 fps at most)
By your logic then the flaregun shouldn't be in the game.
"I don't mean guns like a AR-15 or a AK-47 i mean something more on the lines of a revolver or some form of old hunting rifle. finding them would be very rare of course."
What do you mean by "handguns" or "rifles" and by modern i will assume you mean what is being used by the US Military right now. Assualt Rifles use intermediate cartridages, which are actually weaker then common hunting rounds (30-06 Springefield is a common round which was used in the M1 Garand and B.A.R) and the standard sidearm fires 9mm, one of the weakest and most common pistol rounds avalible, (There is much weaker sidearm ammunition though)
If you are speaking of marksman rifles used by the US Military they aren't faroff either. The standard DMR is the M14 which fires the small 308 Winchester and a few M16 variants that fire 556.
The firearm i was thinking of would be something along the lines of a Remington 700 using 30-06 or maybe a CZ 550.
If you're getting 2 fps then a gun won't help you and a really poor reason to want guns.
The savages aren't very powerful at all...they can't even do damage through our block, plus we have fire that one-hit kills them either from our axes or from our bows. Once a player has been in the game more than a day or two he will likely never die again...I know I died a couple times on my first day but haven't since in over 200 hrs.
I'm not a gun buff but I played more than enough DayZ to know the weapons you mentioned...all OP in a game like this where the savages have NO ranged attacks whatsoever other than the rare fire-thrower guy.
The firethrower is the only AI in the game currently that can hurt the player since block doesn't stop his fire damage...a cz550 or any other of the guns you mentioned would make quick work of him...hence no fear of him ever again.
I've played thousands of hours in games with guns, as I'm sure many others have...so it's not like I'm against guns in general...what I'm against is guns in this particular game because guns don't fit with the enemies we are up against in a challenging primitive survival game setting.
