Audio Distortion Issue
So i've recently come back to The Forest after playing quite a few hours around release, and the changes implemented so far are great!

If the issue i'm facing has already been discussed then i apologise, but regardless i couldn't see a topic based on my current issue, so i'll post this here.

Whenever i start a New Game, after about 5/10minutes of gameplay, particuarly near the Ocean my audio (whether with headphones, surrounded sound or the in-built sound) becomes all distorted and 'magnetic' sounding. It's a constant groaning and robotic sound that plays over the audio that's meant to be played, and it's really an issue as it's preventing me from enjoying the game.

If anyone knows what's causing this (This never happened when i played the game previously, and looking over updates i can't see anything that would be cause this) i would appreciate it.

Also no need to suggest 'check your sound devices'. This isn't the issue and i've checked.
Thanks in advance!

HAving this exact same issue. Hoped there would be an answer. Nothing wrong with my audio ina ny other program, but since coming back to the game after a few updates I too get this horrible tinning distortion glitch. It's horrible and makes the gmae unplayable for me personally. Wonder why it is happening? Devs?

Hm.. Strange. We recently switched over to a new way of doing/adding sounds, so there may have been something that came up with one of the additions or changes.

So you've ensured all your drivers are up to date I assume, I'm afraid I don't know much more about this topic personally so What I'll do is Get your PC specs just for good measure, and I'll tell the rest of the team and get back to you If I find anything out.

Thanks for bringing it to our attention, sometimes issues like this pop up on other rigs, but not our test machines.

If you need more , please let me know. I don;t really know what info you would need.
Cheers for response.
Great game. It does seem to happen,as the one guy said in a thread I read- near water or during thunder. That's when it seems to kick off and just carries on from there.
Hello,
I know what is causing your issue. I have had the exact same issue for a long time over many different versions of the game, and I fixed it finally!

It is the sample rate of your audio device.
I found out that using anything above 96khz causes severe sound distortion in this game only.

Go to Control Panel > Sound > Playback > Speakers > Properties > Advanced And change the Default Format. Try 44khz, and upscale it until you find the best result. 96khz should work, but I dont know that for sure. 44khz probably works 100%.
This is for Windows 7 btw, but it should work for other OS's as well.

I was using 192khz as default for everything, but for The Forest it doesnt work properly, and needs to be changed to 96khz for me.
I'm using a Creative X-Fi Fatality sound card, which allows for 24 bit 192khz playback.

Hey everyone,

Aside from Solenoid who already has, Can you post your specs please? (GPu, CPU, Mobo)

And most importantly, what kind of Audio system are you using? (realtek, x-fi, etc)

Thanks for any answers in advance!

Having same distortion issue/echo, at first I thought multiple instances of the game was running (it was not) not sure how to fix it

SPECS:
GFX: Nvidia GEforce GTX 870m
CPU: Intel i7 4700HQ
RAM: 32GB
DISPLAY: 1920x1080 (In case it would've been an issue)

I tried adjusting my sound quality however it does nothing for me.

16.0 GB Ram
Intel HD Graphics 4000

I am getting a very ''crunchy'', almost distored (with lots of bass) sound when passing through leaves and bushes, also sometimes water (more intense when running). I think it has been like this for the last couple of updates. I am using the Realtek High Definition Audio that came built in in my ASUS G73Jh laptop.

Edit: It also happens when there is a thunderstorm, it also seems to be causing a minor framerate drop. Also when pushing a log sled while running and having the cassette player play meanwhile, the music gets distored too and a bit slowed down, then stops after about 10-15 seconds although the energy hasn't refilled

One of the best games I have ever played and would still be playing. I get the same audio issue as well. It's like a robotic, slightly echo sound. Everything from beating suit cases, brushing past leaves, to walking through water is affected. It starts when I run through a blue (non drinkable) river on the map where two land areas come togeather near the ocean. Running through that will trigger the audio going from perfectly fine to bad. Reloading the game it might be fine again, might not. Odd that it some how ruins the entire save file because If I am careful I never have audio problems by avoid that patch of water.

On windows 8.1 it happens no matter what I use...
default microsoft high definition audio device drivers on fresh install
realtek audio driver
intel HD 4000 graphics which installs another HD audio driver

Has any progress been made to resolve it or at least confirm it does exist?
I'm using asus Q551LN
geforce 840m
i7 4510U
8GB ram

For anyone having Audio issues;

-right click on audio icon from taskbar

-click Playback devices

-select Speakers/HP (Whatever your Default is)

-click Properties

- go to Advanced tab

-uncheck "Enable audio enhancements"

- click Apply, click Ok.

Or you can try This Fix here: http://steamcommunity.com/app/242760/discussions/1/530649887219662515/

Also make sure your Audio drivers like Realtek, etc have the latest updates, especially if you updated to Win10. Reinstalling them may help too!

If none of this works, please list your specs, including your sound drivers, etc.

I don't have the "Enable audio enhancements" option in that tab, but i have an ''Disable Enhancements'' option under another tab, named Sound Blaster. I cheked it and although it did have an effect onother sounds, it doesn't seem to have affected the issue in the game.. I also tried the other option but since i have Windows 7 it only goes up to Vista, wich also doesn't seem to do the trick for me :/. Also the issue isn't the same as the one in the video
