"1 – ATMOSPHERE / DIFFICULTY / HORROR
Some people have already talked about this, but I would like to underline their statements: What the game lacks (so far!) is a true sense of horror and related to that: a deeper atmosphere. This is of course due to it being an early alpha, however, I would still like to make one or two suggestions on this matter: Why is the sense of horror lacking so far for me personally? Because of the difficulty of the game and the overexposure to cannibals/mutants. This sounds contradicting, but I believe it is not.
The one thing is that there are to many mutants wandering around in the forest. They are everywhere and while I agree that there should be a MASSIVE amount of mutants overall on the island, I do not want them to be trampling each other. What this leads to is that I am hardly surprised anymore to meet them everywhere and at any time. Also, it does not make much sense to me that there are hordes of mutants wandering around, while the caves and villages are almost completely abandoned. So far, I can just wander straight into their houses and the deepest caves without any problems. I would like to see places where mutants gather (more than 10 at least) and interact. I want to watch them from afar and see what they are up to in the caves and villages.
Also, even though many people are complaining about the difficulty of the game, I find NOT DYING way to easy so far: Hold your right mouse button to block equals „god mode“.
In my opinion, the steps taken should be: Create certain centers of mutant activity (caves, villages, trees, etc.) and give them some meaning/make something happen there (burials/eating/passenger killing, etc.) that adds suspense and understanding of their world. Furthermore, make mutants very hard to kill, but decrease the amount of patrols. Someone has already mentioned the concept that works best in terms of horror: the „Alien“ concept! If I know it is very hard to kill the enemy and it can kill me very easily, the amount of suspense increases dramatically. There also needs to be some sense of progress. I do not want to be able to kill a spider mutant straight away. I want to have to think about ways of going around him or a strategy to kill him off. "

You made some very good points there and made me realise this is proberly why i dont mind running into the mutants or find it hard to kill them. Maybe if i see them less frequently and had less combat experience with them, then i way fear them more.
Do you remember the first time u seen a mutant drag another one off to save it. I found that amazing (more immersion) but imagen building that immersion with dread, as your looking into a cave considering the pros and cons and all of a sudden you see another citiezen from the same world your from, but he/she is being ripped apart by 20 denizens of the forest, i would go right back to my hut
This is immersion^. I haven't experienced a game like this ever before. To this day i still get the chills when my lighter goes out. This game is amazing and the immersion is fantastic.
very good post !!
What still gets me is the sound of the wind in this game. It is so depressing for some reason.
Glad im not the only one.
