Rope
Is it me or is it ridiculously hard to find? Will I be able to make some out of grass, hay or hair at some point?
Its really taking the enjoyment out of the game for me.

You find rope:
- in small boats (near the coast and in/near lakes)
- in cannibal huts
- in the caves

Its at the yacht 2 ropes every time I go there and also often in the small boats along the shore line, and in can huts once you find a hut that spawns ropes go back and it will spawn rope there pretty much every load up and after some time. I have a hut near me that spawns 3 ropes everytime I have gone there.

There's 2 ropes on the yacht, there's 1 rope in each boat on the beaches along the west coast. In the big cannibal village at the southwest of the island, there's a hut with 1 rope, and to the west of that village is a single cannibal hut that has 4 ropes. There's tons of ropes in the caves as well. I'd recommend exploring a bit out of your set up area (or set up an area where you have quick access to these items)

I agree, it would be nice to be able to make rope out of natural materials, so you can produce it on your own.

Rope is VERY easy to find.
If you're having trouble finding rope the easiest way to get some is walk along the coast until you find a deserted boat, there will generally always be one rope in them. Plus if you find an off shore yacht you're bound to find some goodies there as well.

Learning where supplies are will be critical to your late game survival, but rope is definitely low on your list when you desperately need alcohol for molotovs and watches for bombs.
Fighting a dozen mutants hand-to-hand is generally not recommended.

I have seen one armsy that attacked me at night after a few patrols hit me as well. BUT that armsy made NO NOISE and there was NO music I was getting rid of the bodies of the dead ones and happened to look over my shoulder as an armsy was like 5 feet away LOL. I ran away climbed a tree and turned to fight it and dawn was rising so it disappeared!!! That day I went to another camp I have on the other side of the island LOL yah kinda chicken hearted!! Have yet to die or get knocked out and planning on keeping it that way as long as possible!!!! LOL

Yeah! I don't like the 'shoot, kill, die' games. This one scares the crap out of me because the unexpected happens regularly, and they are not pleasant happenings. I was awakened one night by the 'music!!) and looked down at my very strong fortress and saw 8-10 mutants inside with me . I put a fire arrow into the leader as he yelled at me up in my tree house. The rest ran away. I stayed awake the rest of the night and finally calmed down, although I was starving, thirsty, cold, wet and lacked any energy! When daylight came I came down and checked out inside the fort and got fed and watered, then decided to check around the outside of the fort. I walked through the door and was promptly hit several times by someone I never saw and never heard. Cave time, while my real-time heartrate slowly abated..... But then the cave is very scary too. I don't do caves in RealTime! lol
