That makes no sens...
But I'm suspecting that it might just be a temporary solution, until map and compass are implemented.
Would also be cool if the canibals could break or move your markers to totaly mess with you if that was the case.
(Cant say I havent used them in the past when it was dark out to find my way home. But I think it would have been more immersive trying to struggle finding my way in a dark forest to get back to my base. )
On the map one should be able to mark locations. And updating the map (to cover the area that one just explored) it would take an active action by the player (a map does not draw itself, right?). Also extending the map (larger area, later in the game) would require further crafting.
The compass could be found in one of the cases from the plane, for example.
Good idea, but are you suggesting a map which always indicates the player position via some sort of "you are here" pointer?
Yes, that's what I had in mind. An interactive map would not fit the "survival" character of the game. So one would have to use compass (if present) and landmarks to navigate and keep the orientation. I could additionally think of something like crafting paint and a brush to be used to paint persistent marks on trees or rocks.
