Fill in a pan on the pond...or build a catch water with the turtle shell and catch rain ;)...
So what Neroxify said has been taking out for the moment?
And how do you make a pan? I've been reduced to a newbie ever since Ieft this game to play the Sunless Sea, Subnautica, and Clockwork Empires.
You can drink directly from ponds, like I said. That however is polluted water and gives you damage. As of right now, close to no damage at all. I guess in future updates they'll introduce diseases, and drinking polluted water will make you sick.
To get clean water, you can either kill a turtle and create rain collectors, or boil water at a fire. To boil water at a fire, you'll need a pot that you can find around some survivor tents, fill that pot with polluted water from a pond, then boil that water at a fire (by equipping the pot and pressind C, just like cooking food).
You can also craft a water skin by combining 2 deer skin. Water on the go.
It does not pop up right away , stick around a few seconds , press E directly looking at the water then turn around a bit , it will appear again.
Thanks!
Since the thread is revived though:
-if you are struggling to collect from ponds/lakes, try and find an old pot. They can be found at various campsites and even a few villages roughly between the areas of goose lake and the yacht/sailboat. Not only will the old pot fix that multiple interact buttons competing issue since the pot cant directly interact with most of that list, water collected in the old pot can be boiled as well so you dont risk the usual illness from drinking from the ponds directly. Bear in mind not all water sources can be collected from either. Usually only the smaller sources, so places like the ocean (i mean, that should be obvious) or the larger river/lakes won't actually let you collect water. Smaller ponds and lakes are usually where you go. Bonus that you can hold the pot in your hands while its raining and after a few seconds you will actually fill it with clean rain water as well. Extra bonus that the old pot can also be used to make stews, which can also use spoiled meats without making the player ill. TL;DR: get the old pot, seriously.
-Berries, sodas, and even booze can provide hydration as well (though booze is better saved for crafting, it can keep you from dying at least). These can at least hold you over until you can kill a turtle and set up a water collector with it's shell. Though if playing a vegan game (kill no animals) you will just plain have to live on those sodas and berries. The previously mentioned old pot will be your only option for water collection otherwise, everything else relies on animal deaths like turtle or deer (the water skin). Good news, soda is a common loot inside caves, and cave loot will respawn every time you revisit that cave so if you find even one soda crate in a cave you technically have infinite drinks. You just have to go back sometimes to restock.
-if you must drink directly from ponds, keep an eye out for aloe plants as well. Any time you drink from dirty water sources like that you risk getting sick. Its easy to overlook that you even are sick but it does hinder your stats a bit until you fix it and that does make you slightly more likely to die. If you are sick or infected, you can cure it immediately by eating an aloe. Sickness can also be cured over time with rest and decent food, but infection must be cured by the player (infection you don't get from water though). You can check if you are sick by opening your survival book to the stats page (This was technically a screenshot displaying how you can also see your armor's specific effects, rabbit fur boots specifically for this shot, on the same page, but if you are infected or sick that will show in that "Conditions" portion on the bottom left of that page).

at the moment, there still doesn't seem to be any significant adverse effects from it. like you said, you can get sick or infected but sometimes it's not even noticeable for many days until you look at your health status. perhaps if the hud started showing some signs , then you'd notice you were ill.
meaning that we can definitely keep working on turtle shells and sodas and berries to give us good water satisfaction, but don't be afraid to drink polluted water if you really need to. and yes, i've found a lot of soda as well, so you can almost count that as something you can drink every 1/2 day or every 1 day, and you'll probably come upon some more before your 10 sodas are done.
i remember in another survival game, drinking bad water gives you the runs, but then the game uses that (feces) as a fertilizer for the plants, so it wasn't necessarily just about making the player sick. we could get benefits from getting sick too! hehe
